Rounding off the images from our recent mini tour - a visit to Goodrich Castle, Herefordshire, England.

1. Goodrich Castle as it exists today was built on the site of the 11th century Godric’s Castle during the late 13th and early 14th centuries.

3. Goodrich Castle was owned successively by the Marshal, Valence and Talbot families, many of them important figures in war and politics.

4. The castle stands high above a broad loop in the river Wye, near the Anglo-Welsh border. Note ‘Roaring Meg’, the mortar used by Parliamentarian forces to besiege and take the castle during the English Civil War.

5. Despite its border setting, the castle led a mostly peaceful existence until the English Civil War.
