Hi there!

Some of you may have seen me around for a few days now, but I thought I'd put up a quick intro as well.
My name is Mike, I'm 40 years old and currently reside in Rhode Island, US. Have been interested in photography since high school, and learned the basics with a 35mm Minolta SLR. Although I've been taking pictures sporadically since then, I wouldn't call myself anything more than an enthusiast.

Perhaps due to an early (or just on time?) onset of a mid-life crisis, or as some sort of coping mechanism, I've gotten a bit deeper into the hobby relatively recently, starting with a purchase of a DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone 2 years ago, and a Canon R6 a week ago. I'm simply blown away by the quality, clarity, and capabilities of the new mirrorless full-frame camera and the associated L lenses, and am now very tempted to take this hobby more seriously and develop my technical photography skills and creativity with it.

I've long admired macro photography, and am currently mainly focusing on that. I do, however plan on getting the RF 100-500mm L at some point in the near future, and do some bird or other wildlife photography as well.

I hope to stay an active member in this community, and see this forum grow while getting inspiration and knowledge from the more seasoned photographers here.

Welcome Mike and thanks for joining up here and saying hello to us. I think we all go though a mid-life crisis at some point The RF 100-500 is definitely worth saving for, it's currently the only RF lens in my bag. Of course it's not a true macro lens but with a minimum focussing distance of just 90cm and 0.33x magnification at 500mm it is capable of shooting some great close-up images, especially of more flighty subjects that you would spend ages chasing with a macro.

That sounds promising! All the more reasons to get one, but it'll be a bit before I can justify dropping another 2K 3K on a lens : ) Hopefully sooner rather than later though.
