Another air show in the books!

Unbelievably great early summer day; low heat, no humidity and the clouds were perfectly fluffy. Sun was at the wrong angle, but there's a button in Lightroom to bring things out of the shadows! Location was Harrisburg, Pennsylvania which is.....unremarkable as far as I could tell. The drive from DC was fairly easy so no complaints there. The show itself felt amateurish compared to the military base events that I usually attend. Announcements were lacking and I was behind the curve on some high speed passes, but lucky for you, I'm somewhat quick on the shutter button.

Settings were similar to last time: shutter priority of 1/2000 second, auto ISO and aperture. Electronic shutter, and burn it to the ground on every aircraft screaming by. I can go through 'em later, but can't take more. Came home with about 9k, and you're looking at the best 35. The numbers are bonkers but when things are moving that fast what do you do? Anyway, enjoy.

Here's 13, the rest are on my site, www.esheato.com . Feel free to download full res of whatever you like.

Where were you that you were so close to parallel with the jets and they were close to the tree line.

Some great shots.

Harrisburg Intl Airport is right next to the Susquehanna River and the trees are on the other side of the river. As far as level shots, I wasn’t high, they were just that low. A couple of those shots were at full afterburner on takeoff….like, as soon as the gear is stowed, I’m blasting.

Thank you.

Did you use IS for the Jet shots? If so which mode? While IS is more suited for shots like your prop job shot and static subjects I find it helps me be more stable when I use it. I'm a tad shaky. There has been discussions about how much it can affect initial AF. I've never shot with it off. I have tried but I always put it back on.

That being said I sure wish Canon could have added mapping IS modes control to a button. It looks like they are headed towards Auto movement recognition with some of the newer lenses. Reading forums some just leave it on Mode 1 for everything, which I have done both on purpose and by error. It is a pain to switch between modes when conditions are constantly changing.

I did, and I believe Mode 1. I don’t ever change it, and in fact, it’s covered in tape so I don’t inadvertently flip switches. Even more so, I don’t even recall what Mode 2 is for.

Thanks for the reply. Good information. :)

Great shots. I attended this show also. I had my R6ii for a couple months and decided I was leaving the R7 at home for this show. I was impressed with it's ability to focus. I was able to get the shot I wanted ( F-16/P-51 Heritage Flight ).

I will be back at this show next year. I hope Air Dot Show is able to mix up the performers and make this a show worth going to every year.

Oh nice! Share it, please, I'd love to see it.

Yeah, show wasn't bad. We went to the Andrews show later in the summer and it wasn't worth it at all. I'll be at Oceana for sure next year because that show was ridiculous!

Those are fantastic shots! Harrisburg is close enough to be considered my backyard. I gotta go next year.
