Hey Folks. So I've been wanting to get a monthly competition going here for a little while. I had wanted to start it this month but then I was ill and a few things came up and before I knew it it was the 9th already! So I thought I'd start our competition for May a little early instead. This will also give us more time to iron out any wrinkles.

Theme
For our first competition we will be keeping it simple so the theme is black and white.

Competition Dates
Entries start: The date that this post is published.
Entries end: May 20th at 3am Eastern Time (9am GMT)
Voting starts: May 20th at 3am Eastern Time (9am GMT)
Voting ends: May 27th at 3am Eastern Time (9am GMT)

What Do I Get if I Win?
I'm afraid it's just the joy of taking part but I do hope to add badges to winners profiles.

And must be taken in the past two months. 👍

Does that mean March / April for the May contest? April/May for the June contest? Or 60 days prior to the start of voting? 🤔
Actually there is no date restriction for this competition. I made the mistake of copying that part from my other forum where we restrict entries to the current and previous two months. The problem I'm finding there is that people don't read the instructions and a lot of images are not submitted with the correct dates which creates more admin. I might implement something like this here as well but I thought I'd see how it goes without initially. So any dates are fine providing it was taken with an R Series :)

Do Sepia tones qualify as black and white? Thought it appropriate for the brush fire scars.
Good question. I think I'd say technically no as it's more brown than black and white. It might also impact the votes you receive, probably more negatively. If you could post another b&w image that would be appreciated.

A huge thanks to everyone who took part in our first competition here, it was great to see so many fantastic entries.

In first place with 9 votes was @Nick L with his very atmospheric shot "Monsters on the Quay" taken at Poole Harbour, Dorset, UK.
In second place with 7 votes was @PKM-UK with the very beautiful Sumatran Tiger Kasarna, taken at Chester Zoo, Chester, England.
In joint third place with 6 votes was @Hali with her very creative and eye bending macro abstracts shot.
In joint third place with 6 votes was @Dean Wilson with a stunning landscape possibly shot in his home state of Oregon, USA. Please correct me if I'm wrong Dean!

Our theme for next month is animals and this competition will be starting June 1st.
