Hi i have just purchased an R5 MKii and have also purchased a Sandisk Extreme Pro type B 2 card and the reader. Some people have told me i have made a mistake
In buying this card/reader combination due to speeds etc and that i should go for a different brand and the type B 4 version card. I was lead to believe that the R5 will operate fine on the Sandisk because even if i went for a V4 card the Camera isn’t compatible yet to benefit from the tech.
I have always used Sandisk in my r6 mkii and previous cameras and have never had issues. I will not be shooting video and just wildlife which is my main subject.
I wondered if anyone uses Sandisk in there R5 MKII and could offer some advice please

Alot depends on the type of wildlife photography you are doing....

Single shots recorded to jpg? You probably wouldn't notice a difference between the V2 vs V4 cards.

Maximum FPS with pre-capture enabled recorded to RAW for multiple one-after-the-other blasts? You might be waiting for the buffers to flush with the V2 card.

I am using either an OWC or Lexar V4 card in my R5II and then a ProGrade USB/TB4 reader to dump data to my workstation. This combination is very fast and I've never had to wait for the camera to finish writing.

For additional reading, please see Tim's Canon EOS R Memory Card Guides as well as Prograde's CFexpress Memory Card Guide.

My main subjects Butterflies,Dragonflies,Birds I don’t do a great deal of Birds inflight only when the need arises really. I only shoot RAW
And wont be using Pre capture a great deal.
I’m not really fussed when it comes to downloading images to my Mac Mini M4.
I just wondered if i could get away with the Sandisk option which i have already purchased
Which Lexar card are you using please

This is my main workhorse of a lens and I love it. It's very light weight (only around 2.3 lbs) lens. I've been able to hand-hold it for an event...
