Can anyone help. My R7 is on v1.4 firmware and there is a 1.5 and a 1.6 version available. So I tried to update following the process outlined by Canon. No Joy. Tried everything, like re -downloading the updates, resetting the camera, removing battery , using a different battery, using a new SD card, reformatting card(several times), have a very good card reader so cannot fault that, checked the download was a good one etc, etc, all to no avail. The process was simpler on DSLR cameras but the differences are minor and easy to follow so should have been a straightforward procedure. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Thanks-- Barry

Did you unzip the downlaod?

Hi Barry, and sorry to hear about your software upgrade issue. I don't have an R7, but I'm pretty sure that the process is the same for the entire R line. Can you provide further details? Are you receiving an error message, a failure notice, anything that indicates that the upgrade didn't work? How do you know that the upgrade failed? Are you using a MAC or a PC? Have you copied the upgrade file to the root directory on the memory card? Does the R7 support multiple memory cards? If so, the upgrade file must be on the card in the primary slot. On my R5 that would be the CF card and NOT the SD card.
FWIW, I've not encountered any issues with Canon, Nikon or Sony upgrades for either MirrorLess of DLSR cameras, so I'm interested in what you have encountered.

R7 has two SD slots and I used slot 1. The file was on the root as is usual. The problem is that on the final screen shot of the camera the option to upgrade or cancel is as follows: Cancel is highlighted and update is greyed out. Meaning you cannot carry out the update. Very strange.

Also its a windows pc

Both Canon USA and Canon UK list the PC versions of the upgrade as ZIP files. The MAC files are DMG (I'm not a MAC guy, so I'm not familiar with a DMG file though I believe that it is akin to a ZIP). Are you certain that you have the proper file?

Not sure now. It was in the place you'd expect to find the file in Canons firmware download section and it was the zR7 files I was looking at. Maybe the problem lies there

First make sure you are downloading the correct file for your OS.

macOS file name is eosr7-v160-mac.dmg
Windows file name is eosr7-v160-win.zip

What is your OS?

On the Canon Website after you select which Computer OS Version you are using, scrolling down the first Firmware is for macOS and the one below that is for Windows

When you get the Cancel/Update and Update is greyed out you have to use the rear quick control/set button to move right to select update - nothing else will get you there.

Once you have the correct software remember to Read, Understand and Follow the instructions carefully.

Here is some things people miss:

Had another few goes. Tried a different laptop and SUCCESS!. Must be a glitch in my other laptop as it failed to load the file with the .zip extension.
Thanks to all who responded. Problem solved.

Thanks Dean. I have discovered a glitch in my laptop. I downloaded to same file to another machine and the .zip extension was there. I used this machine to copy to the SD card and it all updated on the camera to version 1.6.0. Thanks for your advice.
