Is anyone excited about the rumored R7II? What are your wishes you would like in the R7II? I ,as you know like the R7. Its long overdue for an upgrade. Will Canon finally give us the best APSC on the market? RJ

"The most anticipated camera coming from Canon for 2026 is the EOS R7 Mark II" - Canon Rumors. But it is vaporware for now.

I'm very happy with my R7. It has given me more good photos than any other camera. It has also given me more BAD photos than any other camera. It is a very conflicted body.

IMO there is little point in speculating about what the R7 II will be like. I just hope it focuses better and doesn't exhibit serious rolling shutter effects.

As long as the shutter thump does not interfere with my heartbeat I'll be interested. This time I am going to got to my dealer and try it out fist. I sold my R7 in the spring and have the R6III now. The first time ever I have been on a prolonged trip with only one body. It is very weird adjustment. I miss having a tely on the crop body and my urban/landsape lens on the FF. However I shoot wildlife 80% of the time so the FF bodies didn't really get enough use for the expense. A dilemma. I guess getting some crop lenses might be the answer but I kinda like a FF for that.

This trip is an experiment with the 32mp FF sensor. My 100-500 and 1.4 really plays and has played well on a FF. A larger view area is easier for BIF. While it does crop as well as the R7 it does pretty good.

I really like some of the AF menu changes on the R6III that also came with the R5II and R1 that were released much earlier. I was looking forward to those changes.

Like Archibald said my R7 gave me some really nice photos but some bad ones as well. The R6III AF is insane IMO so my guess is that will cone with the R7II. Not that AF was bad but every little advantage helps.

I'm definitely interested in the R7 II. I have the R7 and after dealing with the settings is shooting the way I like it...finally. What I don't like is that it seems to go into what I call a "focus coma" in that it simply stops focusing even with the 1.7.1 firmware. I have to turn it off, wait for the sensor to clean, and turn it back on. Once that's done, it's fine. This only occurs once or so during a days picture taking but it's annoying as you never know when it's going to rear its head. I hope the R7 II addresses this.

Odd - I've never noticed that with mine, after about 60,000 shots.

The R5ii is on special for $3900 right now. If the R7ii has all the features and specs except for sensor size, would you pay $3500 for it?
I asked this last year on another site and got a definite NO.
General opinion was APSC was not worth more than $2500, regardless of features.

That's fine for all those folks, but I would be first in line at $3500 if it has the right features.

Its time for canon to release the successor to the 7DII. R6III body would be A great Start. If all the upgrades that are rumored are true? I am ready to buy one for around the same price as the R6. APSC can be a premium camera from Canon. I have both 2.8 zooms from Sigma and really turns the R7 into complete kit.

I’m really enjoying the R6III for the short time I’ve used it. AF is inane as I’m sure the R5II owners have noticed. Some changes the case menus I really looked forward to. Only thing is no stacked sensor so prone to rolling shutter. Something that never bothered me with my R5, R7 or R6II.

Yep yep yep. Already on the waiting list at my B&M store. My favorite Safari kit in the past was the 5D MkIV and the 7D MkII. A R5 MkII along with a R7 MkII will be an exceptional setup in my opinion. Hoping I can get one before my trip to the Pantanal in July. If not, I will take my M43 setup to supplement the R5 MkII kit.

Back in the day, Canon had 2 different lines of APS-C DSLRs; the 7D line and the xxD line. Late in the game, instead of a 7Diii, they merged the lines into the 80D and then 90D, which has the same sensor as the current R7 and was, I believe, the last DSLR Canon put into production.

So, with the R7 line they revived the 7D lineage and put the xxD APS-C line into the ultra-small R10/50/100 line. I own an R5, R7 and R10. The R10 has pretty much taken over the travel duties that the R7 and 90D once filled. But I'm not sure I'd be comfortable mounting an R10 on the back of a bird lens. That's not what it's meant for. So now my R7 mostly stays mounted permanently with a 100-500.

I love my R7. It anchors my bird kit. My only real complaint is the rolling shutter. It's awful. But there are very few straight lines in nature, and none moving too fast, so I only really see the rolling shutter when I'm culling the thousands of nearly-identical shots that camera can produce. Viewed in isolation though, it's hard to pick out rolling shutter in any individual frame. So I'm fine with the R7 classic as the heir to my 90D.

I wouldn't pay $3500 for a dedicated bird/wildlife body. I wouldn't get enough use out of it. I'm an old sports photographer. I do birds now because I'm too old to do sports, but I do love me some big glass. I'll just use my R7 classic and be happy knowing I was able to get a competent bird body for $1200; getting in just under the wire.

Rolling shutter isn't an issue for me because I always shoot electronic first curtain. That solves the rolling shutter effect without any real downside. My biggest beef with the R7 is frequent AF failure. It lets me down often in (admittedly) marginal situations, especially with distant subjects. For me, that is what Canon needs to solve.

I have the R5 too which is a much better camera in many ways than the R7, but like Ken, I always use the R7 for bird (/bug/wildlife) photography. For me, the price tags for the R5 and R7 might as well be reversed. I don't want Canon to overprice the R7 II, but it will be worth more to me than a FF for most of my shooting.
