After several months of waiting, I finally got my hands on one; the mythical Canon RF II Lens Dust Cap.

First thoughts:

- The plastic feels softer than the original cap. I hope it won't flake easily as that would cause plastic particles to get caught in my lenses.

- While it goes on easier than the original cap, it's still not as easy as with the old EF caps.

- It is not black, but more like a very dark grey.

For now it seems like an improvement over the original cap.

When you buy new lenses they come with version 1.0, but you can buy version 2.0.

They must have a whole warehouse full of the old lens caps that they still want to get rid of.

Imagine being the procurement guy at Canon that order a million of the original RF lens caps. And then they decide to make a version 2, and he's looking at pallets on top of pallets of the old ones slapping his forehead thinking, "wtf are we going to do with all these old lens caps now?!"

They could always collect the old ones, melt them down, then use the plastic to create the new ones.
