What Photography Related Item Have You Bought or Sold This Week?

Not a true Prime find but…I have been watching pricing on the RF 16mm f/2.8 STM. Retail US is $299, commonly available for $249. After seeing that there was no furtger Prime discount (unlike the RF L lenses) I decided to pick it up at my local Best Buy yesterday. Surprised when I was charged only $199! FOR THE WIN!!

I finally broke down and sold my 7D MkII and battery grip because it's been a year since I got the R7 and I haven't used the older DSLR at all. I had thought it would make a good backup if I do another trip to Africa but a camera collecting dust makes no sense. Sold it on Ebay and ended up getting $550 for it which is actually pretty good ( I always watch a lot of auctions before selling so I have a good idea of what I might get and what to say in the ad). I also sold my first drone, a DJI Phantom 3 Advanced. For all of this stuff I still had all the original boxes and packaging as well as some little extra accessories I threw in. Lastly I sold my Induro CT 414 carbon fibre tripod and gimbal head. A guy I knew was getting out of photography and gave me his newer model Induro Stealth 404XL tripod and a Mongoose gimbal head so I sure didn't need 2 big ass tripods. In all I have collected just over $1000, you always lose some on the seller fees on Ebay. I'm thinking of selling my Canon R and then saving up for an R6 MkII. The Canon R still has decent resale value.

Oh, completely forgot to mention in my previous post I did buy a lens. I've been wanting a wide angle zoom for the cropped sensor R7 and it seems odd that Canon has not offered one in the RF-S style mount. So I got a Tamron 10-24 mm f/3.5-4.5 lens. I've had good luck with Tamron lenses overall and this lens had good reviews from several of the usual online blogs like Ken Rockwell, Dustin Abbott and Christopher Frost. I got it used on Amazon from a 3rd party seller. Didn't realize until I had placed my order it was coming from a shop in Japan! But it only cost me $399 with free 4 day shipping. The lens was listed as "Used Very Good Condition" but when the lens arrived it was really more like open box or like new as it was in perfect shape; not a speck of dust or anything. And the seller was so nice as most Japanese shops are. He included a thank you note, a pack of lens wipes and a new 77mm Kenko UV filter. Iooked on Amazon and they go for $65! The lens is really nice and a good addition to my crop sensor kit.

I am very close to (finally) getting a lens that I have wanted for awhile, the Canon EF 35 mm f1.4 II (used) for my R5. But why. when I already have the Sigma 40mm? I am a tortured (GAS) soul!

I bought an Ares Hot Shoe Cover for my EOS R. Don't know why I wanted it as I have not had such a cover in about 30 years of photography....haha.

Oh.....I bought two because they were cheap and I figure I will lose one....even though I don't know why I need it. 🤣
Hah! I have two arriving from Amazon today. Why two? Well, two were only slightly more expensive than one, and so then I'd have a spare in case I list the first one. But, in order to lose one I'd have to use it in the first place, and I'm not so sure that I wil. 🤔

Sold one of my R5s.

I just bought this:

Main reason: It comes with a CPL Drop in Filter. There is another one for the same price but comes with the VND filter which to me is not as useful.

Very interesting. I would really be interested in seeing some image quality comparisons between with and without the CPL filter. I will have to check this model out and see what other filters are offered such as ND filters.

According to everything I have read it seems that you can drop filters made by Canon or Meike.

Can't resist it EF 60-600 F4,5-7.1 got a good offer

Not very exciting, but the first thing I've bought in a while - a hand strap for when I don't want to carry the camera around my neck.

I purchased a Solmeta GMAX-EOS2 GPS Geotagger to use on my EOS R. It just arrived today, so I haven't had time to get out and about to test its accuracy etc. But, just from setting it up and shooting a few images here in the house (it is raining today), I am really impressed with the customability of it. I have never owned the Canon GP-E2, so I can't make any direct comparisons there.

The reason I bought it was that on a trip to Ireland in August, where I used my smartphone and the Canon Connect App for geotagging images, I only ended up with about 50% actually tagged. I am sure that there were sometimes that I forgot to start the app, or to make sure the phone and camera were connected and communicating, so I can't fully blame the app/phone. But, I hope that by having a dedicated device for this purpose my tag ratio will be better.

I finally purchased the RF 70-200 F4. I got it for sports, and I know everyone is all about the F2.8, but me or my business can’t afford that kind of drip just yet..

I just got my full spectrum converted R6 back from Kolari vision. They gave me a good trade in on my FS RP and I wanted a faster, water sealed camera, so off went my R6.

After waiting a long time for a tripod spare part, I went and bought a MeFoto RoadTrip Pro Carbon Travel Tripod.

I've only used it for a couple of hours so far, it packs down nicely and seems pretty solid. So far, so good.

Getting a hot shoe microphone for the R6II. Happy birthday to me (soon). It’s in the house but I can’t open it until my birthday.

Just picked up a used EF 16-35 f2.8 L USM in good plus (My own interpretation) condition for less 5 Benjamins with a B&W UV/Haze filter on it in mint condition that retails for about $55. The shop let me test it out on my R6.2 and it worked flawlessly. The only imperfections are a tiny ding on the metal housing and the weather seal could stand to be replaced. Score.

Within the space of one week.

I’ve sold my 35mm 1.4 II; RF 28-70; 400mm DO II and my RF 70-200 2.8.

Depending on if I can find one quite soon; I’m looking at getting a good used 600mm III.
Or if one doesn’t appear by the time I’ve managed to save some more money; then maybe the RF version instead.

Lot of loved lenses I’ve sold. But a 600 f4 has always been my main bucket list item :)

Purchased a combo package R6ii with 24-125 L F4 lens. This was 10 days ago, but I'm brand new here today so, (shrug)
The first body was defective right out of the box. It was returned and I heard this afternoon from B&H they are sending me a new unit.
Hopefully the pony express horse is well fed and rested.
I'm switching from the Nikon D series system, so I expect a bit of a learning curve.

I decided to take advantage of the decreasing prices in the M system which is being discontinued. Picked up a Canon M6 MkII with the EVF and the very sharp and fast EF-M 32mm f1.4. Then I sent off the older of my 2 M5 bodies to Life Pixel for a 590 nm infrared conversion. Should keep me busy through Christmas playing with the new gear.

Just picked up an A/C adapter/dummy battery for the R6II. Ready for some long form video now with the new microphone.
