Bought an inexpensive Angler PSFD-100 Portable Speedlight Flash Diffuser from Amazon. Under $10US. The stretchy collar goes around the lens, and the diffuser will work with the built-in flash on my R100 or an external speedlight. Just needed to improve the lighting on some of the project photos I take. (Seller photo, not mine)

I believe I have the same one Tim. I really like it and use it sometimes to defuse sunlight when shoot macro with high sunny skies.

Took advantage of a Prime offer yesterday and picked up the Sirui PH-20 carbon fiber gimbal head that lists for $299 for $191!! Today it is back up to $235.

My home desktop has 7 drives installed or plugged in. About once a year I'll outgrow one of them. So, often on a prime-like day, I'll spend about $100 on a new drive. The new drive is usually twice the size and much faster than the one I paid $100 for the year before.

This year's replacement drive is a backup/mobile drive where I keep a live copy of my presentation LRC catalog and images: a 2Tb Samsung T7 mobile SSD.

The Samsung replaced a 1Tb SanDisk drive that now lives in my backpack with my laptop. That SanDisk drive was 2 or 3 years old and had so many bad reviews that I was reluctant to replace it with a new copy, but mine never gave me any trouble. (I'm sure I paid $100 for it on a prime day.) It has now replaced a 500Gb internal SSD (that I paid $100 for,) mounted in an external enclosure, as my backpack SSD. The 500Gb drive will go in a drawer with all the other older, smaller, slower $100 drives, just in case.

I buy pretty much all my gear second hand, and I haven't seen prices change much recently. I do keep an eye on the used market, although I'm not really looking to buy anything in particular. (Mirrorless prices cured my GAS.)

Here in the US, we're just beginning to see tariffs take affect on new gear, and new products usually take a year or two to start showing up in significant numbers on the used market. Other than when they released the R5ii, I haven't really seen prices on used Canon gear change much, up or down, since I put together a mirrorless kit 2 years ago. While there are a couple of Mark II bodies out there, as far as I know, all Canon RF lenses are Mark I.

In the last few years MPB has used venture capital to try to corner the market on used camera equipment, so they play an outsized roll in setting market prices. If they start passing along tariff price increases to both sellers and buyers of used gear, regardless of the original purchase price (tariff or no tariff), then market prices in general will go up.

The biggest change in used prices generally comes when a new model is released. I bought a used R5 classic when it was still in production. When the R5ii came out, I bought a 2nd R5 body for $800 less than I paid for the first one. That may be what's happening with the R6ii. An R6iii is rumored to be imminent and that's affecting prices of the R6ii. That will also affect used prices, but the real hit will come when the R6iii is officially released.

absolutely r6ii dropped here again yesterday

Reluctantly sold my old EF 24-105 (version 1). Loved that lens but it developed the classic broken ribbon fault. Replaced it with a lighter non-L RF version which I also love. Had the EF repaired but cannot keep both so the EF has gone. Also sold an oldish EF 100mm macro (non-L again) along with my wife's EF to RF adapter as we don't need two. Happy days and lighter bags!

I have one of these. I got it back when my macro lens was a Tokina 100mm f/2.8 and it worked fine with the Canon EX 430 III flash. When I upgraded to the RF 100mm macro I had to cut the bottom of the elastic where it goes on the lens as it would not stretch large enough for that lens.

My purchases this past week were all macro related. I wanted to make more use of the RF 100mm macro lens and as I have a birthday coming up and the wife wanted ideas for a gift I suggested the AK Diffuser which along with my camera flash gives perfectly soft lighting for insects and other small objects. It seem pretty well made, they custom make it for you particular camera, lens, and flash combination. Since it come with a mount on the side for a Raynox closeup magnifier lens accessory, I ordered the 150 model. My birthday isn't until the 25th and my wife insists she should gift wrap it and I will have to wait until then to try it out.

I also ordered a side arm boom attachment for my tripod so I can get low angle shots.

I sold my Sirui SVM-145 monopod (too short) and replaced it with a Sirui SVM-165 (taller).

I ate my own dog food and bought a refurbished Dell UltraSharp 4K 27" Monitor (discontinued model U2723QE) for $299. The first one I received had a bad panel, but Dell replaced it under warranty. It looks fantastic, has a USB-C hub, and gets excellent reviews. There's a newer model U2725QE that has Thunderbolt 4 ports and a 120Hz refresh rate that retails for $759. I'm happy with "last year's model."

Just bought a set of Kase Revolution magnetic filters. They're very cool. Don't have any pictures of the filters themselves, but I did take out the CPL yesterday. I think it made the most out of those thin, wispy clouds, and it took the shine off that obelisk enough so that, if blown up to 100%, you can read every word.

I had some Amazon Visa points languishing in my account so I decided to spend them. I've been wanting to do some long exposure photos down by the river or the beach where I can get those silky smooth blurs in the water and clouds. My current wide angle zoom is a Tamron 10-24mm and it has a 77mm filter size. I had a 82mm 10 stop ND that I have used with a reducing ring but then you can't use the lens hood which I like in bright lighting.

I found a KF Concept 3 ND set that included a 10 stop but also a 3 and 6 stop filter for $60 which seemed like a good deal, they got pretty good reviews so I figured I would give them a try. And with my Amazon points they only cost me $9.

I mentioned in a lengthy unboxing review last week that I got a Sigma 18-50mm lens for my R10 and how that fits what I want from that kit very nicely. I also mentioned that I am no longer the primary user of that R10 and that little Sigma might be too hard to use, a little too compromised for a casual user.

So, last week I ordered a Canon RF 18-150. Supposed to get here tomorrow. My girls should be happy with that lens.

Just scored Manfrotto Vest no pocket insert/knee pad "worn once to big insert blown away" ??? $100 including postage

Our visit to the United States proved to be a rather expensive episode - we visited a 'Best Buy' where I was able to get my hands on an R5 Mk II.

Although I resisted the urge to impulse buy - only just (they had a great deal on!) 😅 - ongoing Canon (UK) and Wex offers have sealed my fate.

An R5 Mk II (plus additional LP-E6P) is now on the way.

:)

Phil

(Karen knew I'd crack in the end).

I've just about summoned up the funds to update my iPhone (13 Pro) when the new 17s are announced on Sept 9th. I will probably go for the 17 Pro/256G - and I justify this expense on the grounds of the promised improvements to the cameras. My iPhone is the "camera I carry everywhere" for quick snaps and occasionally something a bit more intentional. I've been enjoying using Adobe's Project Indigo camera app, but it does run very slowly on the 13. The extra grunt of the new processor should make it fly, and therefore be more usable as an everyday shooter. It will also help the Lightroom iPhone app run faster. The combination of apps makes for a compelling workflow.

SWMBO will bought off with the purchase of a new Watch. Her old SE runs out of battery far too often. I've tried to explain that it's because her daily walks are too long, but she is a woman of strict habits... ;-)

I decided to upgrade my tripod heads - picked up a Benro WH15 and a RRS BH-40.

I ordered a R6 MKII and a BG-R20 battery grip. One of my favorite camera shops here in Germany has a fall special each October and this year the R6 MKII was included. By ordering in the first two weeks of the month, I got an extra battery, a Canon LP-E6P for free. The fall special includes a 400€ instant rebate, so I paid 2219€ for all of it. Just the body from Canon Germany is currently 2299€ and 2268€ from Amazon. So I am pretty pleased. I could have gotten the BG-R10 for less money from another shop, but I decided to go the future proof route in case I buy a R5 Mark II in the future. But, jeez....the BG-R20 must be made from gold or something...haha. 463.89€ when purchased separately!

Moving from the EOS R, I am very much looking forward to newer features for sure.

I've been looking at different zoom lenses and juggling "what I'd like" with "what my budget will tolerate". I'm not a professional; I like capturing wildlife photos. Anyway, I purchased a Canon RF100-400 f/5.6-8 IS USM lens. That led to the realization that it would not fit in my camera bag, so I also bought a new LowePro backpack. It's a slippery slope!

I have an R100 camera body. The newer lens purchases have both been RF style, which will work with their full-frame line for when I upgrade in the future.

Yep, suits me too and gets its fair share of use. On the other hand, like every camera and attachment I've ever purchased I need just a little bit more length or width or whatever, which makes me 'never satisfied' but happy with the shots anyway.

Picked up the LAOWA 180mm f/4.5 1.5X Ultra Macro APO direct from Hong Kong, $20 for shipping and received it in a couple days. So far I've mounted it on the R5 and I'm a big fan. The OOC color is outstanding and it performs great with the EF/RF adapter.

I have that lens. Here's my first shot with it of some orange bird that landed in my wife's feeder. I was about 100 yds away. IIRC, I used the R7. I also have a 2x extender for even further shots.

I bought a Canon Ad-E1 Multi-function Shoe Adapter for my R6 Mark II. Yeah, I had read that it isn't necessary when using older flashes etc. with the R6 Mark II, but after attaching my Godox flash and my shoe mount gps I decided that I would feel better with it than without it. The problem was that I could not lock the flash foot or the gps foot while they are attached to the camera. I measured the hot shoe on my EOS R and the R6 mark II and as best as I can tell, the hole in which the locking pin on the flash or on the gps receiver descends into is about 2 or 3mm further away from the back of the hot shoe on the R6 Mark II.

I really didn't feel 100% comfortable with not locking either device when mounted to the camera, so I feel that the 50€ was well spent just for peace of mind if not anything else.

It is satisfying to me to hear that "click" when the flash or gps receiver is securely locked into place on the hotshoe. I am really surprised that there isn't a cheaper version from Godox etc. But, 50€ is very cheap for anything with Canon's logo on it... 🤓
