1. It has become something of a tradition for St. Edmunds Church to host the village’s Christmas Tree Festival.

2. The festival runs through November into December and showcases around 50 trees decorated by local groups, mine caverns and other businesses.

3. Castleton is a small village (population 642 in 2011) situated at the western end of the Hope Valley in the High Peak District of Derbyshire.

4. It is the only place in the world where the semi-precious stone ‘Blue John’ can be found and there are various mine caverns sited around the village.

6. In 2017 this charming festival was featured on the BBC’s ‘Countryfile’ programme and it remains a very popular pre-Christmas venue.

Went on a chilly hike in the woods today. Spent about an hour and a half looking for anything to shoot, but nothing, just very quiet (also quite nice). Then suddenly a Eurasian goshawk swoops down in front of me and nails either a thrush or bulbul...hard to tell. Had the shutter speed set low (low light under the trees), so the action is blurred, but a little excitement for the hike.

We've probably all had to deal with irresistible itches at some point (ours usually involve buying expensive gadgets... 😀 ).
