I bought the RF 100-400 F5.6-8 recently which i use on my R6M2. I am thinking about getting a RF 1.4 extender. I read on a few sites and Facebook groups that some people are having troubles using the 100-400 with the 1.4 extender. Some people even said it didn't work at all. Are there people who use this combination? And works it perfectly for you or are you also having some problems with it?

I can't comment on the RF100-400 f5.6-8 as a lens as I have never seen one but it seems an extravagant extra to spend nearly as much on the 1.4 TC as the lens costs and I would indeed be questioning performance as you have done. If I were you I'd rather spend a bit more and buy an R7 which would give you more reach than the TC (1.6 extra) with no loss of aperture and a back up camera and spare battery and charger too.

I have macular degenration, so I'm not the best judge of photos.

I have the R6II and the R7, 100-500 and 1.4. I prefer the TC on my R6II over the R7. This year I'm shooting with the R7 and no TC. The R6II with the TC on.

As for compatibility scroll down.

Here is a series of shots with the R6II. I would expect it work just as well on the 100-400. You will lose a stop of light but the R6I handles that quite well.

I've used the t/c on three different copies of the RF100-400 and it worked fine on every one. You will lose a little AF speed compared to the bare lens, but not a lot.

Here are two images taken with an R8 while walking my dog. First is an uncropped jpeg with some minor exposure tweaks. The Mallard was about 16m away. Second is a RAW with LR enhanced denoise and a bit of Topaz AI Sharpen. About 45% of the frame from 8m in deep shade.

This is my main workhorse of a lens and I love it. It's very light weight (only around 2.3 lbs) lens. I've been able to hand-hold it for an event...
