I've been trying to determine the best auto-focus case settings for my new Canon R5, using my EF 100-400 w/1.4 extender. I thought that hummingbirds would be the best subjects to test....they're fast, small, readily available, and very challenging to the auto-focus tracking system. Of course, I'm shooting fast at 1/2500 to 1/5000 and equally high ISO. My main concern is tracking and keeping the focus while the bird jolts through the sky. I set up a dual back button focus to alternate between single spot autofocus and face/eye detection. I've attached a copy of my case settings.....comments will be appreciated

Looks like you have tracking spot on. In every shot the eye is sharp. The feathers are a tad soft. Can you get closer and use a lens with a larger aperture and even faster shutter or reduce the ISO? How high is the ISO? The softness is graininess.

Hint on using the forum:
If you upload to the gallery your picture data will be displayed in full, not getting that here. Once in the gallery put a link in this part of the forum so we can see it.

It looks like you nailed these! I happen to like a little motion in the wings. The eyes are sharp and that's so important. My only suggestion is if you have enough light, lower the iso a bit and if you don't mind motion in the wings, you can shoot closer to 1/2500-1/3200.

Hello
I have the same passion for fixing the bird in flight.
On my R5 + ef 400 DO F4 V2, I use CAS 2 but with -2 and +2.

good day
