Good day,

Unfortunately my Canon R7 stopped working when I slipped during a phototrip in Lofoten Islands in Norway recently, and the camera (and myself!) got in contact with seawater. camera died. Im OK. I will buy a new R7 (insurance coverage), however I was wondering if anyone has advise what to do with the defect R7 body. could I sell it for spare parts ? LCD screen, viewfinder, buttons/switches, even the sensor I think are all in good order. I can feel/hear the IBIS move when I move the body. The camera has just faulted on the motherboard circuit/power supply short circuit. Advice welcome! based in Netherlands/Europe by the way.

You can try but I guess you have to ask yourself is it worth it? How much will you get for the effort? Also if that happened to me I would not sell parts unless I disclosed it did fall in sea water. So the question is how many people fix their own R7's and how many will be invest in one that filled up with salt water?

I once scratched the front element of an EF 70-200 2.8 II. A short scratch that did not show when shooting wide open. To avoid the headaches I disclosed it and sold it at a loss. Pretty close to what repairing it would have cost me.

For me that R7 would be a boat anchor, but that is just me. It's an age thing too. I don't need more stress in my life so that factors in as well.

Off course I will only sell withour any guarantee, and make clear the camera has been declared total loss. and water ingress to a certain extend.

Thanks, I put it here on Dutch "marketplace" and I already get people who are interested for parts. USD 150 incl battery being offered.

We had a 6 year old car once with rusted-out floor boards. The drivers seat sagged when you sat in the seat. The vehicle was obviously unsafe to drive. What to do? We put an ad in the paper to sell it. The ad said candidly that it was "rusty". A guy came out to view the car. I said to him, Careful, the floor is rusted out! He said, Don't matter to me, I'm a welder! Ha ha, didn't expect that. And he bought it.

So the car was worthless to most people, but not to him.

Same could apply to that R7.

If it were me, I might rinse that R7 carefully in distilled water and then let it dry for a few weeks. Electronic gadgets that were wet will often spring to life again. Might be unsuccessful though if there are water-sensitive parts inside like paper.

Thanks for the advice, I could try, but even it that works, I would never feel comfortable again to take the camera on a photo tour to rely on it. And I wouldnt want to sell it in such condition as "working".
