I am seeing a report that the R-1 might not be available until 1st half of '23 with a possible announcement in the fall.

I would not be surprised if Canon hold back until 2024 and release in time for the Olympics

Am I wrong that a good number of R1 sales will be to organizations who will be buying quantities for their employees to use at top level? This is not a camera for a guy who does one wedding a month but certain operations would have a hundred of the things at the Olympics. Keying release and having enough in stock to cover this demand makes a lot of sense. It also allows time to be sure the thing is really ready to release. I would expect a 2024 release to be preceded by test units sent to the people who order them by the case six months before the official date. No matter to people like me who have spent the total of one R1 on Canon cameras spread over 15-20 years and would not know what to do with one if it were given to me. Canon is a business. Buy stock?
