Full Frame What are your thoughts?

I am seriously thinking of getting a Canon FD 800mm f/5.6 S.S.C. asking price $895 $1000.

"Comes with a handful of filters, lens hood, and a hard shell carrying case. Lens appears to be fungus free, without scratches, and in overall great condition. Case is sturdy, and filters appear all clear as well."

It is local, so I will be able to view it before I buy it.

My concern is that it's not an L-series glass and being a 800mm I would most likely be out of doors. (I definitely cannot afford the RF version!)

I met with the guy today and I checked the lens out. It looks 100% clean. Heavy as hell too!

I will be picking it up next weekend for $850.00 (US). and then worry about how to mount.

But you can get the RF 800 f/11 for the same price. Far lighter and I'm not sure how well AF will perform with an FD. The great advantage with the FD is obviously speed. However these days with modern noise reduction tools higher ISO's are not an issue. There is even lens blur which does not give you true bokeh. However even with my 100-500 and 1.4 that puts it at f/10 still produces nice blurred backgrounds.

Depends how much a purist you are. For me the only advantage would be true Bokeh. Also I know that by your work you have far more patience than I do. It sounded good at the start but from my own perspective I'd likely pass. Maybe if I was younger and still had that patience and drive. Younger arms as well but my guess that will be a lens that sits on a tripod?

I know from the start that each shot will take time for execution and I am okay with that. I can also use it with my Canon FTb, whereas the RF 800 f/11 I couldn't.

Yes. Kinda like my experimental macro days when I had an MP-E 65mm. It was pretty amazing.
