I bought an FD-RF adapter and regularly use my old FD lenses on the R5 (just for fun). The only downside of course is that there is no AF.

As I posted in an earlier post here, I had pre-ordered the Canon RF 45F 1.2 lens on Nov 7th, literally the day after it was possible to pre-order.
I just got an email from B&H that my credit card has been charged which should mean the lens is in their house and being prepared for shipping. Woo hoo. Can’t wait!

I have long envied the TrekPack system but did not want to get another storage box for my office. Instead I decided to repurpose the two 14x17 file drawers in my computer desk and build my own “TrekPack-style” padding and dividers. I am pretty happy with the results and saved a bunch of cash (for more gear?). I havw another drawer to do, and will also add plastic organizer trays to the “pencil” drawer for bits and bobs.

Ok, so I posted a while back that I have ordered the new Canon RF 45mm f/1.2! They (B&H) just charged my card, so presumably the camera is in their hands and being processed for shipping. I decided, since Alphagvrd was having a sale on their lens skins, do go ahead and buy a skin for this lens (most of my lenses and my R5 have Alphagvrd skins). This is the skin I got, (but not the lens obviously). The skin is called Nocturnal Waves.

I've also repurposed a few drawers of my office file cabinet for gear. No dividers like you have, but I have lined the drawers with 1" thick 'Pick & Pull' foam from The Foam Factory. Like many folks here, I have a substantial investment in electronics and optics - spending $20 to ensure it is well-padded seems like a no-brainer.

Last year, in early Sept, my wife and I visited Goblin Valley State Park in Utah for a weekend camping trip.
While there, we saw a missing person poster for a man, Howard Stone, who had gone missing while solo hiking on of the nearby slot canyons.
They never did find him.

Ever since I’d been thinking about all the times I’ve been hiking in areas with no cell coverage. What would I do if I found myself out there in an emergency situation with no way to contact help?

I just want to reinforce the message for folks that the inReach Mini 2 has Sat Comm and GPS. It is a great idea imo if you're off-grid on an excursion and want to ensure that you're leaving loved ones with a trace. It does what your cell phone can't in those situations.

New Condition 1 hardshell travel case.
I have used Pelican cases before and know they are great cases (note, I’ve not owned them but have used them a lot with work-related jobs before I retired). After watching a LOT of reviews for both of the Condition 1 #300 and the Pelican 1510, I decided to pull the trigger on the Condition 1. They both are made of essentially the same materials, so I’m sure they are both close enough in strength and durability. They were both close to the same sale price currently. The things that pushed me towards the CD-1 #300 case over the Pelican 1510, are the following:

1. A big factor for me was the difference in wheels. Besides using this case for travel, I’ll also be using it outdoors and in some rough terrain. I was very impressed with the wider, more robust “all terrain” rubberized wheels on the CD-1 #300 compared to the thick hard-plastic wheels on the Pelican. (At least they “seem” more robust - we shall see).
2. The version of the CD-1 I bought comes with an in-lid organizer (which I definitely want) whereas the Pelican 1500 currently on sale for close to the same price has an egg-crate foam lid insert. I’d have to pay additional $$ for those lid inserts with the Pelican.
3. The divider inserts with the pelican case are thinner and stiffer than the dividers that come with the CD-1. I have a large aluminum camera box with the stiffer type of dividers and I also have a camera bag with the padded, more flexible dividers like the CD-1. It’s just subjective personal preference, but I prefer the softer, thicker “camera bag-like” dividers.
4. In reviews comparing the two, I like that the handles on the CD-1 #300 are completely padded 360° where the Pelican is only padded on the underside of the handles.

I know Pelican makes great cases, and they certainly have a good reputation, but I’ve decided to give the CD-1 a try as it does seem to compare favorably with the Pelican. Both have limited lifetime warranties.

No sooner did my condition one case arrive then I saw that B&H had a pelican vault 525 case on sale for just $99. Well, even though I really didn’t need another case I couldn’t pass up that deal. So now I have also purchased in addition to the condition one case a pelican 525 V case.
The vault series of pelican cases are not waterproof, but they do provide decent protection for normal day-to-day activities. I have enough additional equipment to warrant having two cases.

My second job after college was at the University of New Mexico's student art magazine (before desktop publishing was a thing), so I love printing and art. I feel like my photography is getting incrementally better, and I just want to print some of my photos...

I use one of these and is excellent if you are on an all day shooting session as you can recharge a pair of batteries in the field. Mostly used if am using pre capture as we all know that eats batteries.

I got old model apparently new model has a sd card holder and slightly quicker charge but old model fine for me saved $$$$

Yes mine is the old one too, no SD card holder, and to be honest i don't think i would use it anyway, i have a separate case for cards. The charger works very well for me.

I had an older R3000 many years ago. Awesome quality, but WOW! Keeping the ink refilled was expensive.
