This is such a beautiful collage! I love plants and their colors and you have created everything in a way that emphasizes the beauty of the plants. Beautiful photography. Thank you for sharing and putting a bug in the head - an idea for visiting a botanical garden with a greenhouse to contemplate the beauty of plants (sometimes deadly) associated with photography. (Where the opportunity arises, we love photographing flora/ fauna - nature is a pure delight, plus there are usually plenty of options for creative edits).

I went down to the National Zoo in Washington DC with a FONZ member on Friday 4.17.26 to photograph and get an early look at the new baby Asian Elephant, Lin Mai. The general public will be able see her beginning 4.22.26

I have come across a few really good deals at some estate sales recently. One of which is a very clean example of a Nikon 60mmD Micro-Nikkor that I adapted to my R6 MKII. Aperture was set to f8 and last two pics were handheld using the back screen to magnify and help focus the image.

The lightness of this camera/lens combo made fast panning easy. As the vegetation was four times further from me than the bird, the background was easily kept out of focus and the panning blur exaggerated.

An aperture of f/4 (max for this compact travel lens) kept the bird mostly in focus. I didn't mind the wingtips being 'soft'. Had I spent the extra dollars on an f/2.8 RF70—200, I would have been tempted to avail of that lens's capabilities and ended up with a fuzzy bird!

I shot this one with my R5ii and the Canon RF 100 - 500 stretched all the way out and the cropped a little. It was tack sharp out if camera.

I got surprised by a train when I was sizing up a scene looking through my Canon RF 7 - 14. A 14-35 woukd have worked better here. I don't have a 14 - 35 though.

A terrific start too - image #1 is absolutely nailed on, with that loco perfectly posed and the lens distortion in image #2 creating a real sense of drama.

This was the first day I git out with the new gear. I don't drive currently si I am limited on when and where I can go out. Like this was at near 12 noon one day. My chice was to shoot it or not.

Each holds a wealth of interest for the viewer - #1 and 3 push our 'B&W button' so are our favourites. (It's very close, but the punchy #1 just shades it!).

After a pleasant visit to Chester Zoo last weekend (2,900 raw files await Phil's pleasure) - it's time to cross over to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park where we find Phil making a solo visit while Karen is up in nearby(ish) Wakefield, earning some of what we call 'money'.

(Shot raw and processed using: DxO PL E, Adobe LrC/ PS with Tony Kuyper Panels and Topaz Labs Studio).
