Any R System images can be posted. If you would like to say something about the subject, settings, or processing, that will be very welcome.

Remember, you don't have to only post things you took this month - sometimes people don't have time to process/ edit images straight away. (Think of it more as an ‘images I’d like to post here this month’ sort of thing). Images taken with non-R System lenses are also very welcome.

Images posted on this thread will also be available to view in the dedicated Monthly R System Images Gallery.

Commenting on people’s posts is encouraged as it keeps everyone interested and coming back. (Please be considerate, thoughtful and constructive).

Finally, please post in accordance with the RF Shooters Community Guidelines.

1. Chepstow Castle (Welsh: Castell Cas-gwent), the oldest surviving post-Roman stone fortification in Britain, sits atop limestone cliffs on the River Wye.

2. Construction began in 1067 under the Norman Lord William FitzOsbern (a close ally of William the Conqueror).

3. Originally known as Striguil (derived from the Welsh word ystraigl meaning ‘river bend’), it was the southernmost of a chain of castles built in the Welsh Marches. It took the name of the adjoining market town in about the 14th century.

4. The castle was once owned by the legendary medieval knight William Marshal - regarded as the greatest knight that ever lived - who negotiated the Magna Carta and served five successive English monarchs: Henry II, Henry the Young King, Richard the Lionheart, King John, and Henry III.

5. The castle doors - now housed and preserved within the site - are the oldest surviving castle doors in Europe (dating to around 1180).

6. Since 1984 the site has been managed by CADW, the Welsh Government's historic environment service. Perhaps most importantly, in 1977 Chepstow Castle featured in Terry Gilliam’s cult movie ‘Jabberwocky’...

What I know about horses is slightly less than zero; however, to my untrained eye, this fine equine specimen appears to be putting less than maximum effort into its morning exercise regimen. I knew they were intelligent!

Another Summer Festival in Japan . Last Sunday was not so hot and humid , just a mild Summer day in Tokyo . Awa Dance Festival in Tokyo's Koenji neighborhood . Awa ( the former name of Tokushima Prefecture ) Dance was originated in Tokushima Prefecture , Western Japan . Awa Dance is Tokushima Prefecture's version of Bon Dance , characteristic of Bon Holidays in August .

Nice image!

It brings back so many wonderful memories of my childhood years. One of the downfalls of the Internet/digital age is the demise of brick & mortar libraries, bookstores and stationary shops... I used to love going into a bookstore or stationary shop and just absorbing all the wonderful sights, sounds and yes, smells around me! The crackle of a new book when it is opened for the first time. The aroma of a brand-new box of Ticonderoga #2 pencils. Pink Pearl erasers! A new binder or pad of paper, just waiting for notes, ideas or just daydreaming doodles....

I totally agree with everything you just said. The sad part is that so many people don’t know about the joy of books and the printed page. You really brought me back with the reference to Pink Pearls and Ticonderoga #2 pencils. I’m back in 1st grade.
Not trying to do an advertisement here, but this is the side window of E. Shavers Bookstore on one of the squares in Savannah. It is everything you mentioned above about the sights, smells and sounds of a bookstore. Not to knock the big box bookstores, they have their place, but there’s nothing like a small mom and pop bookstore.

They sell books about turtles that have pictures in them too. Glad this resonated with you.

As far as I can see there are either a lot of books the wrong way round (from the perspective of a window shopping bibliophile), or just four books oriented alternatively. (and a reflection of some random guy wearing spectacles).

Very astute observation. My guess is it’s a marketing ploy. They whet your interest with the wrong way books and hook you into coming inside to see which titles they are. Pretty clever, if you ask me.
The random guy with the spectacles is the nerd that hasn’t figured out that if you take a picture of a glass window, you most likely will wind up in the picture. I have several more photos that prove the point. I’ll learn one day. Thanks for playing the game and spotting the nerd.

My rather limited knowledge of larrys (my play on the genus Larus) says that the subject in the photograph is immature.

I hadn’t thought about that. My mind went immediately to the crass commercialism/marketing side of things, when the more sensible explanation is to protect the merchandise from the otherworldly heat we have down here. Maybe I’m getting too cynical in my old age.
