Your R System Images - March 2025

Welcome to our Canon RF Shooters Forum

Thank you for the explanation. I haven’t tried preview AF at all. I honestly hadn’t looked at it at all. I guess that’s my next thing before we go to Newfoundland. I want to have it dialed in before I visit the Puffins.

Edit-in looking at it I realize that preview AF is what was known before as continuous AF. I have always turned that off because it was such a drain on the battery. I will see if it’s gotten any better.

It definitely works for you so it’s worth a look!

Been there and they are fun to shoot. That was many years ago. Quite few people follow Jan Wegener who likes to pre-focus first uses Preview AF all of the time. I’ve seen him use it in pretty much each of his videos.

Any editing suggestions for these? I got them after a day traveling the Capay Valley just northwest of Sacramento, CA. Definitely a place to bookmark for later.

Hi Steven,

Looking very good to us - all powerful compositions with appropriate treatments (love 'god beams' - and the delicate sun star is ace).

Something you may wish to consider would be to try a minor vignette, possibly with a very minor warming spotlight (both intended to draw the viewer in).

Thank you for sharing... 🙂

Hi David,

What an absolute cutie - perfectly captured...

A few shots from last month. First up, a grey squirrel perched on our deck with a snowy background.

Next is an eastern bluebird drinking from our heated birdbath during a snowstorm.

Finally, a photo of some light trails driving down a road in Boston (my wife was driving...).

Hi Don,

Three contrasting, but equally enthralling shots - love the bird bath (and grateful recipient!) and the 'thrill of the ride', but the cutie squirrel takes top spot.

Well done all-round - and thank you for sharing... 🙂

The "test shot" that may well become the "only" shot....

This was a test of an idea I have for a shot like this at sunset - long exposure to get light trails from the cars on the Interstate behind. The day I took this, it was at noon, with blazing sunshine. I thought I try and see how it looked with just blurred cars in the background, but with no ND filter, it just wasn't happening, but I took this test shot. I thought I'd play with it, so I black and white-ified it.

I was back yesterday, when it was solid overcast, so I thought I'd try again....and I couldn't find the spot! I know almost exactly where it should be but couldn't find it again!
Hi TwoWheeler,

Terrific image (the B&W treatment being spot-on) with a wealth of interest for the viewer.

(If your original concept ever comes to fruition, would certainly like to see the results).

Thank you for sharing... 🙂

Never a dull moment watching 4 and 5 year old kids play soccer. Some have a bit of experience, for others it's the first season. Emotions run high, some are terrified to be out in the scramble to kick the ball! Hi Chris,

Fantastic!

Hopefully it didn't end with the parents having a huge brawl (which has been known to happen here... :D ).

Thank you for sharing... 🙂

Just add I have never really liked how Jan Wegener explains using Spot focus to pre-focus. I get why but what I don't like is he doesn't offer other AF mode suggestions. Like Rudy Winston said in one of his articles - precise does not mean more accurate. Before switching to zone I almost always sued single point AF. More AF area thus more contrast for the system to pick up. If single point is to big for a small bird and is picking up then background instead then yes you have to hone in the AF area. That being said many people use Spot successfully so what do I know. I just don't like to feel limited.

My wife found this yesterday. A new place to explore next year.
