Nice set of images there Phil the last one especially. We could play Top trump Robins ?
Hi Nick,

Cheers - much appreciated!

(I suspect my current popularity with the local robin faction will diminish rapidly once/ if spring arrives - but it's fun while it lasts!).

Hi David,

Well seen and beautifully caught - the reduced light helps to emphasise the subject's gaze (it looks fascinated by your tech - or perhaps it's own reflection?). Very pleasing and complimentary foliage too.

Thank you for sharing... :)

Thanks. I might have been whistling to get it's attention. Is that cheating?

Having finished working through the shots from our most recent visit to Chester Zoo, time for a few late afternoon edits of recent captures from local walks.

(Shot raw and processed using: DxO PhotoLab Elite and Adobe Lightroom Classic/ Photoshop with Tony Kuyper TK-9 Panels).

Beautiful, sharp shots. Your robins are cuter than American robins. Now if I could only find the Japanese variety.

Hi David,

Definitely not in my book. (Having said that, I walk round with a bag of wild bird seed and peanuts in my pocket and engage in widespread open bribery... ).

:)

They are very cute (and they know they are... :)).

Those are always sharp. I think I may pull the TC off my R7 and 100-500. It's not bad with on but I'm going to give it a go. Last year I found the TC did better with the R6II and 100-500.

Problem is I'm often shooting both BIF and static, it can be harder to get close to those little birds and they don't give you much time. One reason why my C1-3 modes are now 100% dedicated to extreme SS changes. All other settings are identical. I've spoiled too many static shots with unnecessary high ISO's from getting excited and forgetting. That change was resent and is working well.

Would you mind sharing one of those RAW files? I'd like to try a few things. I'm not going to post or use it for anything else. I understand if you aren't comfortable with that.

Took a scouting trip from Houston to Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge, one of my friends had a new telephoto she wanted to try out. It's a bit early for the spring migration and it was very windy with the arrival of a cool front the night before so most of the birds were content to float instead of fly. Lots of black neck stilts, coot and of course, alligators.

Pretty dark clouds and the wind was in the wrong direction for my sweet spot so I had t shoot through the fence. I had to hide in the car between shots to not get too wet. I'll call it artistic :)
