Those are always sharp. I think I may pull the TC off my R7 and 100-500. It's not bad with on but I'm going to give it a go. Last year I found the TC did better with the R6II and 100-500.

Problem is I'm often shooting both BIF and static, it can be harder to get close to those little birds and they don't give you much time. One reason why my C1-3 modes are now 100% dedicated to extreme SS changes. All other settings are identical. I've spoiled too many static shots with unnecessary high ISO's from getting excited and forgetting. That change was resent and is working well.

Would you mind sharing one of those RAW files? I'd like to try a few things. I'm not going to post or use it for anything else. I understand if you aren't comfortable with that.
Hi Only RF,

No problem - the raw file from image #1 can be downloaded using This Link.

(If anyone else would like to have the file to edit, please feel free - to be clear, I give my permission for you to download and edit my raw file and post the results here, or elsewhere, providing due credit is given to the person taking the image 'Phil Moore'. Note the file/ link will be removed after February).

Took a scouting trip from Houston to Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge, one of my friends had a new telephoto she wanted to try out. It's a bit early for the spring migration and it was very windy with the arrival of a cool front the night before so most of the birds were content to float instead of fly. Lots of black neck stilts, coot and of course, alligators.

Hi Chris,

A terrific set of images from your visit - definitely a location where you need to be mindful about what you're stepping on (crikey!).

Difficult to single out a favourite, but image #2 will keep us awake for a few days... 😅

Thank you for sharing.

Hi Art,

A series of devastatingly eye-catching captures of wonderful creatures.

Superb subject separation and lush colours throughout, with images #1 and #4 being impossible to separate as our favourite (they're all excellent TBF).

Thank you for sharing... :)

Couple of Japanese waxwings. Bad angle, but tried to clean them up as best I could with DxO.

Hi David,

Two terrific captures of a most striking, colourful and beautiful creature.

(More so given the challenges imposed by the positioning and lighting).

Well done - and thank you for sharing... :)

Fast, sharp, and lightweight! A great lens
This is my main workhorse of a lens and I love it. It's very light weight (only around 2.3 lbs) lens. I've been able to hand-hold it for an event...
