Medieval Festival. Last time I went was in 2018. It's supposed to run every second year but Covid slowed that down. Finally back. Jousters from all over the world. I could post a hundred joust shots. It was fun.

A fantastic series of wildlife shots - all set in their natural environment and all beautifully captured.

A very difficult choice, but image #3 is our favourite (absolutely mesmeric eyes!) - though worthy of mention is the steady hand you maintained for #4.

Our final images for this month's thread come from a recent visit to Powderham Castle, Kenton, Devon, England.

The compilations are a mix of R5 - Phil and R7 - Karen, so please ignore the exif data.

1. The manor of Powderham is named from the ancient Dutch word polder, and means ‘the hamlet of the reclaimed marsh-land’.

2. Powderham Castle was built in 1391 as a fortified medieval great hall by Sir Philip Courtenay. It was created as a family home, a landmark and a space for community life to come together.

3. The Courtenay family were originally French knights - the story begins with the crusade and continues with roles in the Battle of Agincourt, English Civil War, War of the Roses and World War II.

4. The title of ‘castle’ was added no earlier than the 17th-century - although the building has never been a true castle with a keep and a moat, it did feature a number of castle-like fortifications.

5. Major renovations and additions to the property have realised Tudor, Georgian, and Victorian enhancements. Today, the castle remains the seat of the Courtenay family, who are Earls of Devon. (Note the 'secret door' - the castle has a number of these).

6. Parts of the house were used as locations for the 1993 film ‘The Remains of the Day’ and the grounds have hosted various events including performances by - Sir Elton John, Sir Tom Jones, Coldplay, Westlife, Status Quo, Little Mix, Ellie Goulding, The 1975, ABC, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and Bryan Adams.

Thank you so much Phil and Karen! I did love that fox but to get the bear without foliage and in decent light was a winner for me. Yellowstone is a treasure trove of wildlife beauty, if you take your time (and we certainly did! I went through 450 or so images to get one or two keepers of the bear). Strangely enough, later that day we encountered a tourist who asked if we had seen any wildlife (this was the second time anyone had asked us that) when there was a bison 40 feet behind us!

Top: Lone Bison down by the geysers on a misty morning 2nd: Still waters of the Madison River. 3rd: Aspens outside of Jackson, Wyoming. 4th: The least photographed of the Mormon Barns, Grand Teton National Park (infrared full spectrum with a 590 filter) Last: A close up of one of the doors on the Roosevelt Arch at the North Entrance to Yellowstone National Park.

Hali, you make me want to roam Yellowstone! It's been years since I've been out west and I've never had real photo gear with me. I've never considered myself a landscape shooter so I should really open my eyes to opportunities closer to home. But more distant places are, of course, always more interesting.

FYI a few of the images are slightly rotated CCW; it could be that I notice it more than others do. The two barns and the reflected lake for instance; in the barns it's a major distraction to me and in the lake it's barely noticeable (but present).
