Hi David,

It's always interesting to see other varieties of our common (British) birds from around the globe - and this little cutie is no exception.

Beautifully captured with fine detail and superb eye-pop in evidence - thank you for sharing... :)

Hi Massimiliano,

A terrific capture of an absolutely beautiful creature - set amid its natural habitat, the combination produces a glorious sight.

(Love the tracking ripples).

Thank you for sharing... :)

A very different kind of bird, a Bugatti Veyron. There will be more on August 6 on my site.

Hi Cemal,

An eye-catching image of an eye-catching vehicle - this is the sort of thing an owner (or would be owner) would have printed life-size for their lounge.

Beautifully captured, with superb subject isolation/ focus, fine detail and lush colours.

Thank you for sharing... :)

Came across this in the forest a couple of days ago, a first.

Well spotted - and thank you for sharing... :)

Medieval Festival. Last time I went was in 2018. It's supposed to run every second year but Covid slowed that down. Finally back. Jousters from all over the world. I could post a hundred joust shots. It was fun.

Hi Only RF,

A terrific set of very colourful and detailed actions shots - nailed on focus and a joy to behold.

Looks like you had a great deal of fun (which is what it's all about!) - thank you for sharing... :)

Hi Hali,

A fantastic series of wildlife shots - all set in their natural environment and all beautifully captured.

A very difficult choice, but image #3 is our favourite (absolutely mesmeric eyes!) - though worthy of mention is the steady hand you maintained for #4.

Well done indeed - and thank you for sharing... :)

Our final images for this month's thread come from a recent visit to Powderham Castle, Kenton, Devon, England.

The compilations are a mix of R5 - Phil and R7 - Karen, so please ignore the exif data.

(Shot raw and processed using: DxO PL Elite/ ViewPoint and Adobe LrC/ PS with Tony Kuyper Panels).

You can find out more about Powderham Castle by clicking Here.

Phil and Karen

1. The manor of Powderham is named from the ancient Dutch word polder, and means ‘the hamlet of the reclaimed marsh-land’.

RF-SPC-1.jpg

2. Powderham Castle was built in 1391 as a fortified medieval great hall by Sir Philip Courtenay. It was created as a family home, a landmark and a space for community life to come together.

RF-SPC-2.jpg

3. The Courtenay family were originally French knights - the story begins with the crusade and continues with roles in the Battle of Agincourt, English Civil War, War of the Roses and World War II.

RF-SPC-3.jpg

4. The title of ‘castle’ was added no earlier than the 17th-century - although the building has never been a true castle with a keep and a moat, it did feature a number of castle-like fortifications.

RF-SPC-4.jpg

5. Major renovations and additions to the property have realised Tudor, Georgian, and Victorian enhancements. Today, the castle remains the seat of the Courtenay family, who are Earls of Devon. (Note the 'secret door' - the castle has a number of these).

RF-SPC-5.jpg

6. Parts of the house were used as locations for the 1993 film ‘The Remains of the Day’ and the grounds have hosted various events including performances by - Sir Elton John, Sir Tom Jones, Coldplay, Westlife, Status Quo, Little Mix, Ellie Goulding, The 1975, ABC, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and Bryan Adams.

What a great set to almost finish the month.
Thank you! I have a "few" more to post, I've been negligent in my developing and posting.

Thank you so much Phil and Karen! I did love that fox but to get the bear without foliage and in decent light was a winner for me. Yellowstone is a treasure trove of wildlife beauty, if you take your time (and we certainly did! I went through 450 or so images to get one or two keepers of the bear). Strangely enough, later that day we encountered a tourist who asked if we had seen any wildlife (this was the second time anyone had asked us that) when there was a bison 40 feet behind us!

Phil and Karen...Thank you! I want to browse all the books.

Another incredible set, Phil and Karen. What a wonderful library, I could spend forever in there, and the rest of the images are stunning as always!

Hi Hali,

Cheers - much appreciated!

The house is still very much a family home, with the library and its absolutely fascinating haul of contents having been built up over many generations.

Hi Hali,

A treasure trove of stupendous images, each holding a wealth of interest for the viewer - you must have had a fabulous time taking these.

(Love the B&W treatments too - #4 being our favourite overall).

Great stuff - and thank you for sharing... :)

Hali, you make me want to roam Yellowstone! It's been years since I've been out west and I've never had real photo gear with me. I've never considered myself a landscape shooter so I should really open my eyes to opportunities closer to home. But more distant places are, of course, always more interesting.

FYI a few of the images are slightly rotated CCW; it could be that I notice it more than others do. The two barns and the reflected lake for instance; in the barns it's a major distraction to me and in the lake it's barely noticeable (but present).
