The Climber and the Dog

I primarily hike around with my R5, L-bracket with no strap and never had an issue. However after a few days hiking 6-10 hours through scree with the 100-500mm, I am seriously thinking of getting a Camera Clip for my backpack.

Oh, my, I feel tired merely by looking at where you are!! Something I can never do. I have for many years maintained a motto and most of my friends know it:

No pain? Good!

A clip may prove the motto.

I can't agree more.

BTW Dean, great shot!

A bit of driving and a bit of hiking and I found this wonderful composition at the edge of a precipice . In keeping converging lines to a minimum I needed to lay on the ground for the composition.

A recent re-edit of an image taken in our local Country Park, Hartshill, Warwickshire, England.

The girl in the shot was a complete stranger who paused in the right place at the right time - we provided her with a copy of the image.

Last March I was playing around with the typical glassware on a mirror, thinking something alone the lines of City of Glass Under the Full Moon.

The idea was a triple exposure focused on lighting. The first was the "Moon", the second was Magenta on the Left, and third Blue on the Right. In post I adjusting Magenta and Blues saturation differently and all other colors set to zero. The purpose was to have a Black and White adjusting the Hues.

I didn't like the results. The next morning after my first cup of coffee I decided to go back downstairs and put my toys away.

WOW!

Off to the right are two sliding glass doors off to the courtyard and the morning Sun. For two minutes the Sun caught the Bezel corner of the mirror...enough time to capture this. I set up White cardstock as a reflection. Nothing Epic, but fun all the same.

Trying out IBIS: High Definition for astro in Black and White. The horizon was horrible for a couple reasons: wildfire smoke and over 100°F (38°C) at least it cooled down from 112° F (44°C).

The dahlia set is the best for me.
Hi Cemal,

There were some absolutely stunning flowers * on display where we visited on Saturday - but as we'd ridden there on our cycles, I had the RF 16mm (Phil 'always the wrong lens' Moore) and Karen had our misbehaving Sony RX100 IV. I think we still got some decent shots, but I haven't got to view them yet.

(* If I knew the names of any of them I'd tell you, but my knowledge of flowers is, basically, similar to my knowledge of birds - and everything else. There were quite a few Dahlias though - I think! :) ).

The third pair.

What I use is Google Lens. Upload a picture and it will find matches, albeit it may take some doing.
I searched using a photo of mine of a couple bees on a Dahlia (variety called "Pooh") We live a couple miles from Swan Island Dahlias.

My second photo is of a Spotted Towhee.

Hi Dean,

Very useful - I'll look into that for sure. :)

If it's of any use to anyone, we use the 'Merlin Bird ID' app by Cornell University for instant bird identification from their sound/ or from their features.

This is superb, Phil and Karen. I find it mesmerizing. How are you liking the TK9 panel? I'm loving the blend-if option and most of the new things that he's put in there.

Hi Hali,

Cheers - much appreciated! We do enjoy looking for abstracts/ patterns/ textures as we tour sites and places and this particular panel caught our eye.

I'm relatively new to the TK Panels, having been slowly 'gathering speed' with TK-8 for a while. I'm really enjoying the updates in TK-9 and I also bought the very worthwhile (and recommended) 'TK9 Button By Button Guide' by Sean Bagshaw. (Definitely a case of, 'if in doubt, read the instructions!' :p ).

(I'm also very happy to recommend Dave Kelly's YouTube channel - which includes a good deal of instructional/ inspirational content for using the TK panels).

Each time I've had/ taken the time to weave TK-9 into my workflow, the resultant images have benefitted from the experience. A wonderful set of tools. :)

It's a new month so it's time for a new challenge. How about Black & White photography this time?

This is not a competition so there will be no winners announced, it's purely for fun and self-development.

Simple Rules:
  • Canon R Series cameras only please
  • No sky replacements, keep it real
  • Please don't post more than 3 separate posts, multiple images may be included in a single post
Also the challenge does not end when the month ends, I leave it open so you can continue to add to it whenever you like.

Have fun!
The Captain

I've been using TK panels since he first released them. Each iteration gets better and more useful, and I find more and more things to do with them. Both Sean and Dave are instrumental in learning the ins and out of the panel. Sean for an overview of how everything works and Dave because he shows the big picture. I agree, it's a great set of tools. Sean just put out a youtube video showing how to collect colors for color grading from one image to put on another and how to save the ones you like. If you haven't seen it here it is

Hi Hali,

Slightly off-piste for the thread, but actually - that's what I was playing around with yesterday afternoon... :)
