I am having difficulty getting my Atomos Ninja V to give me 60fps from my R5. When I shoot to an internal card it works fine but when I record to the Atomos it duplicate frames rather than providing 60 original frames. I have tried at different resolutions along with other variations and have had no success. My only answer is that there is some setting on the Canon R5 that I have set wrong. However, I don't know what that setting is. Does anyone know where I can get this answer? I have tried Atomos, and they have been very responsive but at this point it seems as though it is not the fault of the recorder. I know this because I also attached a Sony FX3 at that worked fine giving 60 original frames.

What is your shutter speed? You'll get duplicate frames if it isn't faster than 1/60th (because the exposure takes longer than the time between frames). For 60fps use 1/125th shutter.

Unfortunately that isn't the problem. I am shooting at 1/125th.
I am so perplexed by this issue. Even Atomos doesn't know quite yet. I am going to do another test today on my other R5 but the settings are the same so I don't hold much hope for a resolution by this test alone. I feel like there is one dumb setting in my camera that is not right and causing this issue. Otherwise it doesn't make much sense to me. For the most part, I know what I am doing. I've been a shooter for 25years. This one is really stumping me.

have you done the latest firmwear updates on the camera and the Ninja?

There could be a fault with the connection between your 2 devices.

Yes. on both. I have tried two different brand new Atomos cables with two different R5s and two different Ninjas. Firmware on all devices are up to date.

Sorry, I cannot add anything more. The only other possibility is just an incompatibility. 1, Canon are not responsible for other manufacturers add-ons. 2, Ninja need to do some more R and D to solve the problem.

Have you researched other Ninja type gadgets to see if they can cope?

The only thing I can think of is to reload firmware and try again. Everything I have come across with the two of these components working together has been fine. That said, there is very little on youtube about people shooting slow motion R5/Ninja. It's all 24fps. Videos seem more focused on 4k/8k but not high frame rate with the recorder.

I too am having this issue - it's been driving me crazy. I sent my Ninja in back to atomos and they said they replaced a faulty motherboard - received the fixed unit and the same issue persists. This SUCKS.

I would check the HDMI output specs for the R5 and the Sony FX3 What the Ninja will record is limited to what the HDMI port on the camera body will accommodate. It may be a port limitation. The card inside is recording at the camera video setting. The HDMI output may very well be limited to the HDMI settings in the camera menu and this is very limited.

To all that are having this issue. I have found the corporate to this problem as well as the solution. I have an R5 paired with the NinjaV. I also had my 4K 60 get choppy when interpreting to a 23.976 timeline in premiere. But to the point. (STANDBY LOWRES) what’s creates the extra frames that creates choppy 60fps. It actually works correctly with the monitor AND CFEXPRESS CARD. If you shoot with this mode on and no CF Card it will create the skip on the monitor files. The file on the camera will be fine. Which defeats the purpose of the monitor. If you are only using the monitor as main recorder make sure to TURN OFF (STANDYLOWRES) and it will work as should.
