Happy New Year! :)

We hope you enjoy creating memorable images this month!

Have fun - but stay safe and well…

Any R System images (stills or movies) can be posted. If you would like to say something about the subject, settings, or processing, that will be very welcome.

Remember, you don't have to only post things you took this month - sometimes people don't get around to processing/ editing images straight away. (Think of it more as an ‘images I’d like to post here this month’ thing). Images taken with non-R System lenses are also very welcome as this adds to the interest.

Images posted on this thread will also be available to view in the dedicated Monthly R System Images Gallery, which can be found Here.

Commenting on people’s posts is encouraged, as it keeps everyone interested and coming back. (Please aim to be considerate, thoughtful and constructive).

We aim to provide feedback - but note we are away for part of each month and busy with ‘life stuff’. The lack of a comment from us is not a sign of disfavour!

Finally, please post in accordance with the RF Shooters Community Guidelines.

Thank you!

Images from our recent-ish visit to Holker Hall, Cartmel, Cumbria, England.

Holker Hall (aka ‘Hooker’) is the home of Lord Richard Huge Cavendish, Baron Cavendish of Furness, and his wife, Pamela Thomas, who live in the older wing (this area of the house is not open to the public).

(Shot raw and processed using: DxO PL Elite/ ViewPoint and Adobe LrC/ PS with Tony Kuyper Panels).

1. The land on which the house stands was owned by Cartmel Priory. After the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 16th century it became a private residence and the Estate passed by inheritance through the Preston, Lowther and Cavendish families.

3. The Billiard Room. After it was almost destroyed by a disastrous fire in 1871, William Cavendish, the 7th Duke of Devonshire, and his daughter, Louisa, recruited the most eminent architects and designers to rebuild Holker. (The caricature is by Joshua Reynolds).

I just processed an image I took of my daughters during my youngest daughter's holiday visit. They played with their scarves to give me a unique photo op that I then applied a filter to give the image a vintage look.

Hi Chris,

A superb capture of a beautiful creature - perfect pose, pleasing blend of feather detail and blur and nailed on eye catch-light.

Well done indeed - and thank you for sharing... :)

Taken while walking around the river after lunch from a small bridge.
A piece of log sticking out of the water.
I happened to have my camera with me.

Hi Pavel,

An intriguing composition which will cause a good many to pause and look close to investigate. Well seen and caught!

(Beautiful colour palette too).

Thank you for sharing... 🙂

Went out to photograph some eagles at Pohick Bay that feeds into the Potomac River in Virginia. The bay is about 15 miles from my home.

Hi Art,

High drama in the skies featuring absolutely wonderful creatures - beautifully captured and presented.

(Having said all that, it should be noted the fish doesn't appear to be having a particularly great time).

Thank you for sharing... 🙂

Hi Art,

Top drawer work in evidence here - a terrific composition, perfectly presented.

(We trust the subjects were both suitably impressed).

Well done - and thank you for sharing... :)

Very interesting, good composition and beautiful reflection!

Still going through images of eagles taken on New Years day 2025 at Pohick Bay in Fairfax VA. It was a blustery day with wind gusts above 30 mph. Eagles looked like they were having a blast :)

Hi Hali,

Cheers - much appreciated!

A fascinating venue with very welcoming and knowledgeable staff, beautiful gardens and surrounding parkland - plus there's a cracking courtyard café!

(All the more rewarding for the fact that we cycled there from our campsite - they have a good many 'interesting' hills up in Cumbria... ).

Hi Art,

Absolutely breathtaking captures (in every sense!). What an absolutely magnificent and spellbinding sight to behold.

Masters of their art at work here we think - both in front of and behind the camera!

Wonderful stuff - thank you for sharing... 🙂

Hi Hali,

A stunning and mesmeric composition - imaginatively conceived and perfectly presented.

(We suspect Phil won't be the only one hitting his head on the screen when peering into it).

Well done all-round - and thank you for sharing... 🙂

I am calling this image of youngest daughter Terran a "Bear in the Woods". This is because I nicknamed my youngest daughter Terbear when she was little :)

A beautiful image of a lovely young lady. I really like the light vignette and vintage look you've created here as well.

I hate vignettes because they tend to be over done and don't add to the composition.

However, in your photo it really add to the subject and blends quite well. Your photo has an overall "Film" appeal to it. Well done. 👍

Well we had a touch of snow again, made for a nice backdrop. Made a special fatball for the birds, its going down a treat.

These are so lovely. What a wonderful treat for the birds!! If I tried to do something like that here, the grey squirrels would have demolished it by the time I got back in the house!
