I love that baby owl photo!! Such big black glossy eyes, and the light hitting all the edges of his fluff is too cute, I can't even
Hi Cxizent,

Pleased you like it!

At the start of 'this and that' in 2020 we began to do early walks through our local woods (we still do) and one morning we looked up to see 2 very young owlets staring down at us from a nest very high in the trees. We grabbed a shot (or 2) but didn't overstay our welcome and moved on. Long story short, we saw them almost every morning for the next 6-7 weeks and they got so used to us that by the end they were flying across to where we stood (in one instance, Karen had to back off to be able to fit one of them in the frame of her 7DII/ EF 100-400!!). A very special time we'll never repeat, but this was a really nice surprise... :)

This is insane! I love how you can clearly see the bars of shadow that the clouds are leaving across the terrain, and the diagonal line of the river lining up with the edge of the foreground is really drawing me in to the image. This is really spectacular!
Thank you for the kind words. I had wanted to go wider, but the low sun made the far left too bright to incorporate smoothly. We were about an hour or so before sunset and just hitting the lookouts along the rim working our way closer to Grand Canyon Village.

Hi Stephen,

Another truly epic landscape - we feel like we're about to fall through the monitor screen into it!

Well worth all the effort you put in to creating it - a wonderful memory beautifully captured... :)

Appreciate the comments! The thing that is so amazing about any image with the Colorado River in it is knowing that the river is close to 100 meters (300 ft) wide at the bottom. Something that’s hard to fathom in any image from the rim. Having hiked down there a couple times now, it’s still hard to believe that’s the same river when I’m crossing the foot bridge.

Thanks Bob.

This came from a trunk full of family photos. I went through them last year looking for photos to scan and put together in a poster for my brother's 75th birthday. He was born in 1947 and I in 1945.

What did you use to clean up the photo? I volunteer for a local museum and scan and restore lots of old photos. Most much older than this one.

Tom
I use a variety of things. First I loaded it into Affinity Photo and used their Inpainting, Blemish, and Patch tools to clean up the artifacts. It was a quickie and I know I didn't get them all. When I was happy with cleaning I moved over to Topaz Photo AI for enlargement and AI Face Recovery and noise removal. I find that you have to be careful using these tools too aggressively because they WILL make the faces look like the Lost Indonesian Lizard People.

Finally I go back over to Affinity to clean up any artifacts created by the rest of the process. I collect old digital movie posters and use this same process (weird I know) so I know what a challenge bringing old things back to life can be. As always - and you well know - having a decent starting points helps.

With your experience I'm sure you could have done a better job than I did, but thanks for letting me do a little. It was fun..
