Hi Jeff,

Terrific captures of two wonderful creatures - each well posed with the right degree of subject isolation and perfectly complemented by the gentle pastel shades of the backdrop in the first image and the foliage with tumbling leaves in the second. Plenty of interest here to attract and fascinate the viewer.

Thank you for sharing... :)

Thank you.

Bit of a sunset at the farm last night...

That's a big "Norwest arch", the wave cloud so characteristic of our skies, catching the rays of the setting sun. I do like the 14-35... ;-)
Hi Gareth,

Crikey, that's quite a sight - very impressive indeed. Are you absolutely certain Pink Floyd weren't playing a gig in the next town...

Well captured - and thank you for sharing!

Random shot in the forest the other day, hit it with the DxO miniature effect tool and, hmmm, kinda interesting.

Hi David,

We do like shots in the forest in general, but the use of the miniature effect has worked very well in this case, adding an interesting slant to the image.

A thought provoking approach, thank you for sharing... :)

A European Robin spotted (and bribed with wild bird seed!) in our local woods yesterday - Hartshill Country Park, Warwickshire, England.

Great shot of a very cute bird, Phil. I'm reminded of a saying from university: Free food attracts birds, squirrels, and students...

The "Odensha" (a portmanteau of oden, a Japanese hotpot dish popular in the winter months and densha, electric train). A special street car in the City of Toyohashi, running from Nov. to Feb., where one can spend an hour and a half on a round-trip ride, eating oden with the unlimited drinking of beer and cheap sake (there is a toilet break half way through 😌). Cost:¥5,000 (about $35 USD)

Hi David,

That sounds like it could be a very memorable trip - well, for those that can remember anything about it afterwards...

(Nailed on image too!).

Thank you for sharing.

That is so cool. Are the toilet seats heated? Most public toilets in Tokyo had heated toilet seats. My wife loved it.

I think the break is at the stadium, so probably not. But some toilets, in addition to the heat and bidet function, also have the noise feature, which plays the sound of rushing/flushing water to cover up embarrassing toilet noises one might make.

We did not stay long enough. We only seen Tokyo and Kyoto. Took the bullet train past Mount Fuji on the way to Kyoto. loved it. I'd go back.

Images from our recent visit to Lyme, Disley, Cheshire, England.

(Shot raw and processed using: DxO PhotoLab Elite/ ViewPoint and Adobe Lightroom Classic/ Photoshop with TK-9 Panels).

This short stop-over broke a long-ish journey. Regular viewers will be shocked to hear it rained throughout our visit (of course it did). This is a very large estate and we could only scratch the surface - we’ll be back...

You can find out more about Lyme by clicking Here.

1. Positioned on the edge of the Peak District, Lyme was home to the Legh family. The estate, granted to Sir Thomas Danyers in 1346, passed to the Leghs of Lyme by marriage in 1388.

2. The current house dates back to the latter part of the 16th century. In the foreground and below is The Orangery.

RF-S-LM-2.jpg

3. Do Not Adjust Your Sets - Accompanying the festive decorations was ‘Animal Crackers’, designed by The Strange Train Company, an event which promised visitors would be ‘taken on a self-guided visual journey of mischievous merrymaking’... 😮

RF-S-LM-3.jpg

4. Like many grand houses, Lyme was built and rebuilt, embellished and enlarged throughout its history.

RF-S-LM-4.jpg

5. Lyme remained in the possession of the Legh family until 1946 when it was given to the National Trust.

RF-S-LM-5.jpg

6. The 1,400 acre estate includes a reflecting lake, where Mr Darcy met Miss Bennet in the BBC production of “Pride and Prejudice’. (Plus, more importantly, it was also used as a location for the Red Dwarf episode ‘Timeslides’... 😀).

Hi funjp,

A single reply to your 3 posts if we may - scintillating and stunning colours from Kyoto, an eclectic composition that grabs the viewer's attention and series of really well composed and controlled potraits from Tokyo. A diverse mix with terrific captures showcasing your photographic and processing talents. Thought provoking and inspirational.

Thank you for sharing... :)

Images from our recent visit to St. Edmunds Church, Castleton, Derbyshire, England. (Montages are R5 - Phil and R7 Karen).

1. It has become something of a tradition for St. Edmunds Church to host the village’s Christmas Tree Festival.

RF-S-CT1.jpg

2. The festival runs through November into December and showcases around 50 trees decorated by local groups, mine caverns and other businesses.

RF-S-CT2.jpg

3. Castleton is a small village (population 642 in 2011) situated at the western end of the Hope Valley in the High Peak District of Derbyshire.

RF-S-CT3.jpg

4. It is the only place in the world where the semi-precious stone ‘Blue John’ can be found and there are various mine caverns sited around the village.

RF-S-CT5.jpg

5. Photographers eh? (Actually, having browsed their year book, very fine photographers indeed).

RF-S-CT4.jpg

6. In 2017 this charming festival was featured on the BBC’s ‘Countryfile’ programme and it remains a very popular pre-Christmas venue.

Went on a chilly hike in the woods today. Spent about an hour and a half looking for anything to shoot, but nothing, just very quiet (also quite nice). Then suddenly a Eurasian goshawk swoops down in front of me and nails either a thrush or bulbul...hard to tell. Had the shutter speed set low (low light under the trees), so the action is blurred, but a little excitement for the hike.

Hi David,

Looks like you were there at just the right moment.

We've probably all had to deal with irresistible itches at some point (ours usually involve buying expensive gadgets... 😀 ).
