My camera came in today! I didn’t have much time to play with it, but I had to try it out, got some pics of my handsome boy Otis. Hopefully tomorrow I can try to capture some hummingbirds that visit my yard.

Hi Mimi,

Congratulations on your new tech - it looks like you’re off to a flying start!

What a fantastic model to have as your first subject - Otis looks suitably impressed… :)

(Good luck with the hummingbirds!).

Went out early today, the sun wasn't quite up yet, so it came in with a lot of noise that I cleaned up, hopefully I can get back out there when it's sunny and try some more. :)

Hi Mimi,

Now, that is a flying start!!

Incredible work - your tech may be brand new, but we suspect your skills are very well polished - thank you for sharing... :)

Tis the season for Hummingbirds and Bright Flowers. We have a variety of Fuchsias in our landscape. The one on my photo is Gartenmeister.

Just finished processing the 12,500+ raw files from our recent trip (1,350-ish raws retained, with associated edits all now backed up) and I've had a little time today to have a play as the weather here has been a total miserable drench-fest and Karen's been busy sorting out a side project.

Nothing particularly special, but 2 quick 'throw things at the wall and see if anything sticks' creative re-edits. Result and original (inset).

(Software: Adobe Lightroom/ Photoshop - with TK-9 Panel, DxO Nik Collection and Topaz Labs Studio 2).

These are all Canon Connect JPEG conversions from R6II raws transferred to the phone. Passing time on the long drive home. Can’t wait to get these into my regular software.
Very nice, you continue to make us pine for a return to the Rockies. I bet you can do great PP to do justice to Mistaya Canyon. Shooting Velvia slide film or Royal Gold 25 print film never had the latitude to make a nice photo of Mistaya.

I recently attended a local sunflower festival here in New Hampshire (USA). This farm, had fields and fields of these beautiful flowers. It was nice to see that this couple showed up perfectly dressed for the occasion.

Ah, we missed one in CT, but we visited the fields anyway. They put on quite a show all over the fields.

Drifting through the sky

If you look up in the western morning sky today you should see the moon looking a lot like this. It'll be smaller (already 12 hours since photographing) and, if you are in the northern hemisphere, the moon will look like it has been rotated about a quarter-turn clockwise — that's because I'm Down Under and you're 'Up Over'. (The long, drab green leaves should immediately identify the tall tree as an Australian eucalypt.)

I was tidying up the garden when I heard the unmistakable 'whoosh' of a hot air balloon's burner. Straight overhead! As usual I had neglected to take a suitable BIF (get it?) kit with me, and so had to hobble rapidly indoors and grab a suitable zoom. The balloon was, by then, heading north-west in pursuit of our planet's constant companion.

Who needs a BIF lens that zooms down to 100mm? For once, I did, but I failed to notice that the unfamiliar f/4.5 aperture was too wide.

Why don't they make variable-aperture zooms with the larger aperture at the extreme end? Should be simple.

Hi David,

Great reaction improvisation/ adjustment and capture - well done!!

(When we spot a pleasant background our conversation often turns to 'what we really need now is for a balloon to sail past'... ).

I went to a nearby farm in August that plants a variety of Sunflowers and opens the many acres of blooming fields to paying customers who come to take selfies and cut flowers to take home. This year they had sunset and firework nights of Friday and Saturday. Here are some shots from fire works, the first one is a software blend that adds one firework bloom and lightens the sunflowers. Also have included a still life using 3 sunflowers.

Sunflowers high and low! We visited a sunflower farm and I am in the process of writing a new post. There will be four photographers' images as we all went there together.

I would like to add my two cents worth to the sunflower collections. These are from the fields of Buttonwood Farm in Connecticut which we visited last Wednesday with my wife and a couple of friends. A post about that visit is coming early tomorrow morning, early in Eastern Time in the US.
