Your R System Images - December 2023

Went on a chilly hike in the woods today. Spent about an hour and a half looking for anything to shoot, but nothing, just very quiet (also quite nice). Then suddenly a Eurasian goshawk swoops down in front of me and nails either a thrush or bulbul...hard to tell. Had the shutter speed set low (low light under the trees), so the action is blurred, but a little excitement for the hike.View attachment 23328View attachment 23329
Hi David,

Wow, right time - right place (unless you were the hapless thrush or bulbul 😮).

You did very well to capture the episode - thank you for sharing... :)

Thank you. Yes, lucky with that one. Now if I can find the nest, that would be very fortunate (only a few thousand trees to inspect).

Hi funjp,

A single reply to your 3 posts if we may - scintillating and stunning colours from Kyoto, an eclectic composition that grabs the viewer's attention and series of really well composed and controlled potraits from Tokyo. A diverse mix with terrific captures showcasing your photographic and processing talents. Thought provoking and inspirational.

Thank you for sharing... :)

Thanks Phil and Karen . Incredible how you can picture those Medieval places . Here in Japan is quite difficult to find anything original more than 200 years old . I still want to drive from Aberdeen to the Scottish countryside . Preferably in Summer , which is already cold in Scotland . Keep posting photos from your travels in the UK !

Hi Steve,

Fantastic! Excellent captures in tricky conditions - a lot of joy being shared (and those festive beverages and snacks look extremely appealing!)... :)

Hi Art,

A series of absolutely stunning shots (the individual poses/ compositions, subject isolation, colours and detail are all top drawer).

Every image is an inspirational treasure - drawing the viewer in and captivating them with their wonders and delights. Fantastic!

Thank you for sharing... :)

Our final images for this month/ year are a few (major) re-edits from shots taken in our local woods - Hartshill Country Park, Warwickshire, England.

Owing to a combination of the weather being particularly dire through the festive period (even for us!) and working up our new Loupedeck (and fiddling about) these images combine R System shots blended with AI generated 'guest subjects'. Caution - these are more art than photography, but there you go...

Normal service will resume next year!

(Re-Edit software: Adobe Lightroom Classic/ Photoshop - with Tony Kuyper TK-9 Panels and TK Gen Fill Panel and Topaz Labs Photo AI/ Studio 2).

Just a bit blown out and if your wondering just a bit close.....Edit darn power lines

Hi Peter,

Crikey, my hair's standing on end just looking at this image. Definitely at the jaw-dropping end of truly spectacular!

(I know you know what you're doing, but top marks for keeping a steady hand - and not beating a hasty retreat... ).

The Photoshop Remove Tool may be able to deal with those power lines, but I suspect it would take a fair bit of fiddling.

Hi Dean,

In terms of the weather/ nature not cooperating, we definitely feel your pain (and have the images to prove it!)...

However, that is still quite a sight - we love the mist amid the tree line and hugging the mountain. A very fine image considering all the challenges you faced.

Thank you for sharing... :)

Canon AF is my best buddy. Here, a bashful kingfisher was buried beyond a good meter of branches. I threaded the spot focus through a gap and the AF locked on no problem.

Hi David,

Despite the challenging conditions, you certainly nailed this one - and what an absolutely beautiful creature. Stunning.

Have you tried using Multiple Exposure in-camera to achieve the same thing? It can be very challenging as the camera setting remain the same for the duration.

Here is a ME I tried using the distance mountains due South at Blue Hour, then reorienting for the Moon about 40° elevation East-South-East. It would have been completely over exposed using the settings, so I held a 10-stop ND during the Moon exposure.

I view this as Art as this cannot happen in reality. Also the only AI used was inside my skull. 😂

Hi Dean,

Your energy and imagination continue to inspire (and real life certainly beats my 'over a cup of coffee' virtual approach to playing around with stuff... :) ).

I may have to find time to play around with ME at some point (I'll add it to the ever growing Todo list), but in the meantime that is a very pleasing result.
