Hi David,

Drama in the skies! The right place and time, but - importantly - fully prepared and capable of nailing the shot.

(You did very well to keep a steady hand - and hold the targets in frame).

Thank you for sharing... 🙂

Hi Nick,

Fantastic! All the more special for their relative scarcity - these wonderful creatures never fail to delight.

Beautifully captured and presented.

Thank you for sharing... 🙂

Hi Mke,

Looks like the squirrel enjoys a very pleasing outlook - lingering rich orange/ browns of autumn and pin-sharp reflections across the mirror like water.

Plenty here to interest the viewer.

Thank you for sharing... 🙂

Thanks , the work in putting in a decent feeding station is paying off, though the amount of birdfood they eat is quite staggering.

Hi Nick,

Between the birds, squirrels and occasional muntjac deer/ fox we generally operate on a daily total loss basis... :D

(Worth it though!).

We were up in the White Mountains of NH for a few days last week (where better to spend Christmas as a New Englander?) and this is MIA, one of the dogs at the Inn we stayed at. She came hiking with us every day (often after a 6 mile cross country ski with other people).

Hi Hali,

That looks like a fabulous place to enjoy the festive period - and what better way than with such a wonderful companion?

(If only we could find a way to bottle all that energy and vitality!).

Great stuff - and thank you for sharing... 🙂

The first in what may (or may not!) be a series of sample editing workflows. This shot was captured by Karen at Quarry Bank, Styal, Cheshire, England.

I do all of our post processing and in this case I used: Adobe LrC/ PS with Tony Kuyper Panels, DxO Nik Collection and Topaz Labs Photo AI/ Studio 2.

Phil

(This is not to say I'm God's gift to processing, but if you're at all interested in what I do - here you go... :) ).

1. In the beginning - as shot (unedited raw - converted to jpg). A terrific spot/ capture by Karen - my thought was to turn it into a high key, dreamy B&W image.

2. LrC - Initial basic edit (tone, presence) with a 5:4 crop applied.

View attachment 33627

3. PS - Healing of minor blemishes on the flower petals. Topaz Photo AI - Minor overall DeNoise/ slight Sharpening of flower centre.

View attachment 33628

4. PS - Nik Collection Silver Efex - Preset 043 ‘More Silver’ applied. Tony Kuyper Panels - Contrast brushed onto select areas of petals, minor vignette and a hint of subject spotlight applied.

5. PS - Nik Collection Color Efex - Custom treatment applied (Filters used: Tonal Contrast, Infrared Film, Darken/ Lighten Centre, Vignette Blur, Glamour Glow).

6. PS - Image ‘mounted’ into custom digital frame (created using Topaz Labs Studio 2). Watermark added using custom brush.

Thank you so much, Phil. This was great. I really enjoy seeing how you created this. The steps are very similar to mine with slight twists that I will try in the future!

Very nice photos of our feathered friends, P&K. Love to see birds from other locations, with some so similar but different than our species. And I never get tired of seeing robin photos

Hi MIke,

A definite contender for 'cutie of the month' presented here - terrific pose and facial expression.

Well seen and caught!

Thank you for sharing... 🙂

Thanks for the comments!! :) It's a beautiful lake in the town where I grew up.
the lake is very seldom that tranquil, so it's really difficult to get the reflections.

Hi Hali,

Cheers! Pleased to read you enjoyed it. A couple more 'straight' sample edits to come in due course. (Probably). :)

Hi Hali,

Cheers - much appreciated! :)

Fortunately for these wild birds there are a regular supply of walkers who take food around with them to the various popular feeding spots.

(So they're also relatively relaxed about people watching and photographing them - the robin was a very calm and patient little cutie!).

Hi Don,

Cheers - much appreciated! :)

Fate willing, there should be more wild bird images to come over the next couple of (winter) months.
