Fantastic image. I need to get myself a faster aperture, wide angle lense and a better location!Week 1. Sounds fun. I'm a newby at astrophotoghy with the R5. This was a composite (in camera) shot of the Milky Way last night. I did a little post processing to get rid of some tail lights and city lights on the right. Taken with R5, 14mm Samyang Lens. Setting: ISO 51,200 yikes!), f stop 2.8, 4 seconds --- three stacked photos. No equatorial mount used.View attachment 3596
We have plenty of these rascals here in Arizona and about 6 species. Best observed from a distance with that 500mm lensWeek 16 - We were privileged to see Prairie Rattlesnakes in their den. To get this picture I had to stand on quite an incline on uneven ground just below the top of a coulee. Lighting was a challenge. No room for a tripod or monopod so it is handheld.

It was really nice to have my 100 to 500 lens. I only needed 145 mm because we were on the side of a coulee and I needed a helicopter to get a little distance. I should have used a lower shutter speed but my footing was not stable. Lucky my balance was good that day last week. I have since taken a tumble and spent 4 days in hospital with a concussion. I just got out this morning. We have plenty of these rascals here in Arizona and about 6 species. Best observed from a distance with that 500mm lens
Sorry to hear that. Hope you are recovering well. Actually, I wondered about the shutter speed. Was the tail buzzing because it looks completely still here? Those tails are like hummingbird wings. It was really nice to have my 100 to 500 lens. I only needed 145 mm because we were on the side of a coulee and I needed a helicopter to get a little distance. Thank you. The tail was shaking periodically. I am not sure it was when I took this shot. Prairie Rattlesnakes are endangered here. We used to see them all the time but we rarely see them now.Sorry to hear that. Hope you are recovering well. Actually, I wondered about the shutter speed. That’s a seriously good image from the 100-500 lens Tim. I thought it was a macro shot initially.
Thank you Kathryn!A beautiful sharp shot with lots of detail.
Awesome shot Kathryn. Glad that you were using the 100-500 though and not a macro lens!Week 16 - We were privileged to see Prairie Rattlesnakes in their den. Thanks Mike. It does make a great alternative to a macro and you can shoot from much further away as well. That’s a seriously good image from the 100-500 lens Tim. I thought it was a macro shot initially.
Wow! That was a great shot, and I'm sorry to hear you were hurt. I hope you get better quickly! It was really nice to have my 100 to 500 lens.
