From our garden…

Protea neriifolia

Protea neriifolia

Another 52 Frames project photo. The reported metadata is from the photo that captured the photobomber. The sunrise was captured at half second exposure with intentional camera movement.

Hi Tony,

A truly beautiful and stunning image - well worth your time and effort (I wouldn't know where to start to produce work of this calibre).

Thank you for sharing... :)

Phil

Beautiful photo, Tony!

Please tell us how you combined the photos.

…David
Hi David - Photoshop. The sunrise was taken using a 1/2 second exposure with international camera movement for the blur. The camera was on a tripod with the movement being slightly rotating the head from left to right. The second photo was a normal exposure where the girl (fortunately) walked out into the ocean. I first edited the sunrise photo and then added the second photo and layer masked to just show the girl. I had to do some blending to get the girl to not look like a rubber stamp silhouette. You could also look at processing the sunrise for the Adamski Effect to get the blur, too. I may try that on an upcoming photo.

Hi Art,

Two wonderful compositions - both well seen and caught. The B&W is our favourite (stunning).

Thank you for sharing... :)

P&K

Excellent B&W image.

Ruff and Southern Hawker

Normally I am a Canon DPP user, then tidying up in Photoshop and applying either Neat Image or Topaz DeNoise.

I had a connection problem between my R7 and MacBook Pro using USB, my R5 connects perfectly R7 doesn't?

So Playing around I connected using wi-fi and thought I would download some of my last images again. Only this time I would use Adobe Camera Raw and try out the DeNoise AI function.

Here are two of the 'test' shots, what do you think?

Update on my R7 connection Problem, it's a new R7 Menu Item! Yellow Spanner 5, Choose USB connection app, Photo Import/Remote Control.
Had to launch EOS Utility 3 which then informed me it was unable to connect by USB and to quit all apps and try again. Which I did and it worked, connecting the camera and turning it on caused EOS Utility to launch just like on my R5.

Hi Phil,

I think they both look absolutely fine - nice images too! :)

The noise reduction element of my workflow varies depending on the file I'm working with at the time - and where I'm taking it creatively.

I can apply noise reduction with Adobe (Denoise), DxO (DeepPRIME/ DeepPRIME XD), or Topaz Labs (Photo AI/ DeNoise AI/ Sharpen AI).

They can all do a VERY good job, but in terms of the most detail critical/ high ISO files, the 'pecking order' is - DxO, Topaz Labs, Adobe.

On a practical level, I generally use Adobe Denoise for anything that doesn't need DxO or Topaz levels of noise reduction grunt/ finesse.

(Everyone will have their own workflow and if it works for them, it's the right one).

I was just surprised I liked the results 😬
As normally I don’t and carry on using DPP. So was pleasantly surprised that this time I liked the results of ACR editing the CR3 file directly. Using the DeNoise AI function of ACR was just to see how it did.
But as you say there are many workflows which produce excellent results, you just need to find the one that works for you.
Using ACR directly on my R7 RAW’s might be an option.

Hi Phil,

Frankly, I was left completely stunned when I first tried Adobe Denoise - it's really good straight out of the box (and I mean REALLY good).

Excellent denoising, with no evidence of haloing - perhaps suggesting luminescence masking? - with detail smear only coming at higher ISO's.

I'm working my way through 12,500 raw files (R5 and R7) from a recent trip. Many are being denoised with Adobe - and are looking very good.

I also quite like the new 'Remove tool' in Photoshop for quick and dirty healing tasks... :p

Folks walking past thought I was crazy, laying down next to a little stone pond with my R5 and the 100-500mm under a setting sun.

Beautiful shots, Jim. Sometimes it pays to be a little crazy...
