My feeding station has been especially busy these last few days, with constant activity and lots of visitors, I guess it was this that attracted my latest visitor. Just caught a little commotion out of the corner of my eye, there was one of the resident wood pigeons sat on the feeder, not 10 feet away from it was the Sparrowhawk. It gave it the eye for about a minute, then swooped off. View attachment 26304
Hi Nick,

Well seen and beautifully caught (superb detail and eye pop). What a fantastic creature and an amazing sight.

Reminds me of an occasion few years back where I had an altercation with a sparrowhawk which was in the process of attacking a blackbird in our front garden (twice!). It eventually left after I gave it a major telling off - which would have left anyone overhearing me wondering what was going on... 😂 😂 😂

(Made me quite popular with the blackbird - which survived both incidents).

I forgot to say. I just finished working on the file I posted just after your post. Bad weather the last few days so I was going through some older captures. Phil is not the only one having bad weather. He may be sending it our way. Big fans? :p
😀

Hi sosh,

A terrific series of shots - very well controlled given the competing demands of the subjects and backgrounds.

(The black woodpecker in shot #1 is an extraordinary sight - for us!).

Well done all round - and thank you for sharing... :)

Thanks! I've tried a lot to get the best of. In reality just 10% of shots was good enough for me. Distance, snowing, light, tremor LOL However, goood lense. And nice subjects)

To start the week - a few recent-ish images from our strolls around Hartshill Country Park, Warwickshire, England.

(Shot raw and processed with: DxO PhotoLab Elite, Adobe Lightroom Classic/ Photoshop with Tony Kuyper TK9 Panels and Topaz Labs Photo AI).

Hi Only RF,

A terrific set of well controlled and nailed on images featuring these extraordinary and beautiful creatures.

(Once again you've given us a tough choice but image #4 is superb with perfect feather display/ eye pop).

Thank you for sharing... :)

Thanks. Like you said. Many wind up on the cutting room floor. :)

Hi Pavel,

A fascinating shot which draws the viewer in and stirs the imagination - love the graduated haze too as this adds to the sense of depth and mystery.

Well seen and captured - thank you for sharing... :)

I think this is either a carrion crow or common raven...leaning toward carrion crow. I basically have three choices: large-billed crow (ハシブトガラス), carrion crow (ハシボソガラス) or a common raven (ワタリガラス). The Merlin app thought it was a large-billed crow. Anyway, it was posing nicely for me and gave me some incentive to take the time to research these birds I see every day and don't give much thought to.

Not the typical birds you all post, but since she posed for me, she gets posted.

Hi RW,

Variation is certainly the spice of life and you've captured a superbly detailed image of an absolute cutie here - terrific eye-pop too!

(We love photographing our local wild deer - when they let us see them).

Thank you for sharing... :)

Finally weather allowed for small walk to forest. This is my best shot so far in march.View attachment 26516

Hi David,

Well, whatever it is you captured this beautiful creature perfectly - well judged exposure which reveals the fine feather detail and terrific eye catch-light.

Hi Only RF,

I was showing Karen through the thread last night before we turned in (after a long day making sure the plasterer was kept fully supplied with tea... ) and I said hang on, where did this come from - and why haven't I seen it before?

So anyway, belatedly (and thread time displacement mysteries aside) - a superb image, absolutely perfect for the B&W treatment and a joy to discover.

Thank you for sharing... :)

From our local Festival of Lights which took place last night. Some of the lights were very impressive. I heard several small children crying as this one approached.

Hi Bryan,

With apologies for the late response (somehow this part of the thread wondered off into an alternative dimension and has only just returned - looking at this image, you may have actually been there as well... ) - you've captured a fascinating scene (superbly controlled exposure) which draws the viewer in to gaze with wonder at the joy and excitement being evoked by this enchanting community event. Great character and detail in abundance here.

You did well to keep a steady hand and nail the perfect moment!

Thank. you for sharing... :)

Nice work. Crows or any black birds can be a challenge to expose and get details in the blacks.
