We have a few Icelandic communities north of our city. One is called Gimli located on lake Winnipeg. Full of Vikings Further north is Hecla Island where we spent a some time for our 40th. Today cars use the causeway to get across. This is what remains of the ramp to the Ferry that was shut down long ago. About 60 years ago mom, dad and I drove up that ramp. I have very vague memories of it

Yesterday morning, as I clattered my way across the boardwalk spanning the Nudgee Wetlands, I spied a flock of Pied Stilts idling away the morning.

I parked my ebike on the far side of the boardwalk and walked back with my R5, RF 100–500 and 1.4 extender.

It was quite pleasant sitting on the planks with legs dangling almost to the water and elbows steadied on the rails. All I had to do was wait for some action. (A vacuum flask of hot chocolate and a few Ouma rusks were beside me.)

Nothing happened: surely some bird would feel peckish! Maybe they'd fed already: 6:30 am was clearly siesta time.

Our day started here with a walk in the 'Hartshill Wetlands', where the temptation to sit round and get a thorough drenching was somewhat lacking...

(We did spot a couple of toads who seemed to be enjoying the conditions).

1. Derwent Water looking from Borrowdale towards Keswick. (Mere seconds after this shot was captured, we got completely drenched - for the craft... ).

4. Ashness Bridge sits on the single-track road between Borrowdale and Watendlath.

5. The Lancaster to Kendal Canal opened on 18th June, 1819, and enjoyed 30 years of growth until the arrival of the railway. In the 1960’s it was drained and filled in. (It is unlikely to reopen).

Cheers - much appreciated! We had pretty grim weather for most of our trip, but there's always a positive and the conditions leant themselves to B&W.

The signature (our silhouettes plus some text) is a Photoshop 'brush', meaning we can easily change the size, colour and opacity/ blend mode etc...

You can see how to create a brush signature/ watermark in this tutorial by Anthony Morganti.

As it happens, it survived very well. Can't say the same for some of our other trees - thankfully none blew over, but lots of branches have broken off. Tidying up and chainsawing the big stuff is going to take a while...
