Hi Peter,

The B&W treatment certainly does add to the drama of this fine capture, drawing the viewer in to explore the scene.

Incredible skills, sheer hard work and age-old traditions all being showcased here.

Thank you for sharing… :)

Hi Kerro,

Thank you for those very kind words - much appreciated! :)

Kilchurn Castle is quite a sight - helped in no small way by its setting across Loch Awe. I’ve not visited Urquhart Castle (the one on Loch Ness), though Karen has. It’s on our hit list for when we’re next up in that neck of the woods.

Phil
We did the boat trip down Loch Ness in 2012 and saw the castle. They say that now they've found the trench in Loch Ness that Nessie maybe hiding in tunnels under Urquhart Castle.

Hi Kerro,

😮 Something to keep an eye out for when we do visit...

The final fall color photos for the year and some birds I picked up along the way.

A silhouetted pine tree in front of Beaver Pond in New Hampshire.

Route 114 near Beaver Pond is a colorful drive
20231004_2417.jpg

The Kancamagus Highway in New Hampshire also provides a nice, colorful drive. In this photo I was able to frame the setting moon over the road

Mount Willard and Mount Jackson provide a striking background for Willey Pond in Crawford Notch State Park in New Hampshire

I took this photo of Beaver Brook Falls in Colebrook, New Hampshire at dusk with a 20 sec exposure, which gave smooth water but still captured some nice color
20231004_2770.jpg

A couple more long exposure waterfall photos: Upper Screw Auger Falls in Grafton, Maine and the Lower Huntington Cascade in Dixville, New Hampshire

A common loon on First Connecticut Lake in Pittsburg, New Hampshire. This is a very cropped shot that I was able to get with the loon fairly far out on the water. I was not expecting loons (it is a busy picnic area and a very large lake) but initially this bird surfaced 20 feet in from of me as I just got there. I wasn't ready with my R7 and RF100-400 lens  so I had to settle for a longer range photo once it dove and resurfaced

A turkey vulture soaring over the Massachusetts Audubon Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary
20231012R7_9908_NR.jpg

I captured this black-capped chickadee in our backyard, finally past the esthetically difficult molting period where every day is a bad hair day
20231013_5925.jpg

Finally a blue jay portrait taken using the R7 and RF800 mm lens at an effective 1280 mm. I'm still amazed how well this combination works

Hi Don,

A truly wonderful set of images, each well composed shot holding a treasure of interest for the viewer.

The colours are achingly beautiful (and wow, those waterfalls!), (and those birds!) - very nice!

A great way to start our Monday morning - thank you for sharing... :)

A few more images from our recent visit to Portmeirion, Gwynedd, Wales. These being from the grounds and estuary (aka the 'larger area map'!).

(Shot raw and processed with: DxO PhotoLab Elite/ Nik Collection, Adobe Lightroom Classic/ Photoshop with TK-9 Panels and Topaz Labs Studio 2).

Phil and Karen

Also of note, we're away after tomorrow for a few days (so no feedback from us until we return) - please keep up the great work, we'll be back... :)

3. Are you ready for the Welsh Midges? (No).

4. Waiting for the golden rays of the sun... (We're still waiting).

5. No sign of 'Rover' - perhaps there's a chance we could yet escape...

Kenyon's Grist Mill, Usquepaugh, Rhode Island. The reservoir is behind the mill and the waterfalls, to its side. Because of trucks parked in front of the building, we did not take pictures of the mill itself. Next time.

Hi Cemal,

Three glorious shots showcasing nature's beauty - and your talents - looks like a wonderful location to pass the time.

Thank you for sharing... :)

I don't ever recall seeing one of these birds before. I'm glad that I didn't just dismiss it as another pigeon.

Hi David,

What a beautiful creature - well seen and very well caught (you nailed the eye focus/ catch-light).

Thank you for sharing... :)

Thank you. The lack of nice fall colors in our usual spots made us get more adventurous and explore new places. All three waterfalls were locations we had never visited before. And while partially-feathered birds can sometimes provide a funny photo, I'm very happy we are moving out of molting season and are getting more attractive birds to photograph...

Experimenting with an old new lens. I bought many years ago a pinhole lens cap for my Canon 5D M4. I put it on an Ef to RF lens converter and took a few frames. These are all done with a pinhole lens cap.

A few of the old Texas courthouses from my trip this week! Still editing so more later. Some were so nice but the big live oak trees hid the structure. Almost needed a drone!
