Your Photo of the Week

I see a lot of mutations like that on the birds at our feeder. Someone said it could be our bad hygiene at the feeders. Such a shame.
From what I've read it increases during the winter when many chaffinches migrate from Europe. It can pass from bird to bird via surfaces so cleaning garden feeders is recommended. Or course many birds will be feeding from multiple gardens and feeders so it's a difficult one to control unfortunately.

Week 5
Another waterfall, this one in Vermont. I think it's all frozen now, 5 days later.

Week 36 of 52. The guy that owned the tractor passed a few months ago. He had a immaculate garden of about 4 acres. That was his favourite tractor and has been placed on the horizon of the garden when seen from the house. The tractor is defo a monument, but might be his headstone.

Week 26. Not the nicest of weather right now but this little long-tailed tit can't hide inside and wait for the sun to come out. Dropping the shutter down to 1/60 made it a little more challenging to get a nice sharp shot but the stabilisation of the R5 and 100-500 really helps, especially as this was shot hand-held. At these shutter speeds you also get the nice rain trails.

Week 6, something other than a waterfall... (And first "real world" test of the 100-500, the Snowy's weren't cooperative but the Christmas tree was)

Week 37 - There have been gaps in my entries for this challenge. I am having difficulty getting out this winter with it being so cold. Here is a shot of a welcome visitor here in the winter. Being taken with a telephoto, the distance between the posts and the barbs on the ware are compressed.

Stunning shot and lovely composition Kathryn. Don't worry about the gaps, it's all about having fun and sometimes life or the weather just gets in the way. There are plenty of gaps in my entries too as I've been so busy with family stuff over the holiday period and the weather hasn't been particularly kind either, but I'll keep going and hope to have a little more time to shoot again soon once another house move is out of the way this week.

Thanks so much Timothy. We are always excited to see a Snowy Owl. I have really enjoyed this challenge. It has got me going at times when I might not have otherwise. I appreciate the flexability being able to miss posting here and there. This challenge has been fun. Good luck with your move.

Beautiful image, I love the environmental portrait!

Week 7, a bunch of weeks late. Life happens and the next thing you know it's a month later, not a week, but I finally got out again to shoot.

Week 2 : Echos of the Past
Remnants of past eras of homesteading on the prairies in Canada have remained for decades but are now deteriorating at an increased rate. Most collapse soon after they get to this stage and then vanish, erasing their existence, so future generations do not have them as a reminder of their history.

When I first saw that old, abandoned house next to a windmill......I thought it was taken in Washington, USA......there is one virtually identical to this about an hour south of my home..... Nice shot, well done!

That is very interesting to hear about. Thanks so much!

Week 40 - It is a pretty cold day today (-20 degrees Celsius, -7 degrees Fahrenheit) but we had a chance to photograph Common Redpolls which are a delightful tiny bird, smaller than a sparrow. They are visiting southern Alberta from the High Arctic. This one is a male. Limited shooting time due to cold fingers.

Gorgeous photo Kathryn. Definitely a very pretty little bird. They pass through the UK during the winter months, I've never been lucky to see one though. Stay warm!
