Thank you. The raven amicably left the scene. It didn't like the odds of getting tag-teamed. As a side note, one of the combatants, the Eurasian sparrowhawk (pic below), can be a bit difficult to distinguish from the Japanese sparrowhawk. Luckily, the Eurasian has 6 individual wingtips (5 for the Japanese).View attachment 25331

One of our local 'seagulls' spent ten or so minutes standing amongst a few dozen refugees from arctic Siberia, and then, without any warning that I could discern, barged through the little fellas causing one of them to execute an emergency take-off.

In a month of two, the Curlew Sandpipers will be gone: back to their breeding grounds fringing the far north-west Pacific.
